Description

UDR, Inc. is now hiring a Vice President - Tax to join our team at our corporate office in Highlands Ranch.

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Provide tax analysis and planning for the Company. Responsible for all aspects of tax compliance issues, including the planning, organizing, and directing of the compliance activities of the Company. Assist in developing an adequate system of internal controls and financial reporting and work with the outside accounting and law firms on audit and tax issues.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Senior Vice President - Chief Financial Officer

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Compliance Manager Tax, Senior Director(s) - Tax and Senior Tax Analyst

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  1. Lead the tax compliance department in the planning and analysis for the company including providing tax advisory services to the department heads and business unit leaders.
  2. Oversee all tax compliance matters which include; due diligence activities, quarterly tax accruals, and work with external tax advisors.
  3. Accountable for all aspects of quality, efficiency, cost effectiveness, and financial management for the tax department.
  4. Ensure compliance with all current state tax laws and regulations.
  5. Direct the implementation of changes in tax legislation as it impacts the tax operations.
  6. Ensure the Company maintains strong internal controls for the external reporting of tax information and for the reporting of significant tax issues to senior management on a timely basis.
  7. Review and approve the preparation of the income tax provision and SEC disclosures.
  8. Review and approve estimated tax payments.
  9. Ensure on-going compliance of income-tax accounting and reporting process with Sarbanes-Oxley internal control requirements.
  10. Manage quarterly and annual effective tax rate analysis, tax provision, REIT tests, and overall income tax preparation and submission.
  11. Manage tax functions and role in quarterly and annual close processes.
  12. Keep current on industry trends, including developing functional expertise in FAS 109 and other areas impacting related functional areas.
  13. Hire and train new staff and develop staff to maximize potential.
  14. Supervise direct reporting staff in accordance to overall company policy.
  15. Monitor staff performance, including performance reviews, and address performance problems through corrective action and dismissal.
  16. Approve time records and requests for time off.
  17. Assist direct reporting staff to address and resolve concerns or complaints involving job duties and job descriptions, performance standards, relations with coworkers, and relations with supervisors and managers.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned or as necessary.


PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:



  • Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures. Knowledge of fiscal management, human resource management, and office management techniques. Ability to apply policies and procedures to solve everyday and/or complex company issues.
  • Polished interpersonal skills. Ability to work with Company managers and associates. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to maintain a working relationship with external auditors. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of audit and risk management terminology to communicate information and to explain potential exposure, consequences, and answer questions. Knowledge and understanding of business research principles, processes, and techniques. Strong personnel management skills.
  • Perform duties that require strong comprehension, analytical, research, composition, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to develop and prepare business analysis and plans. Knowledge of the principles of strategic business decision-making. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports and legal documents. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously to meet critical deadlines. Must have the ability to manage workload, to develop efficient and effective processes that impact the entire organization, and to communicate with managers and staff at all levels of the organization. Must work well in stressful situations and under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to motivate, develop, and direct people as they work, identifying the best people for the job. Ability to apply the principles and practices of work leadership and management.
  • Performs duties that require considerable initiative, independent judgment, and strong communication skills. Knowledge of computer systems and applications. Ability to process computer data and to format and generate reports. Must be skilled in work processing, drafting correspondence and memoranda, and creating and maintaining databases.


TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires mobility sufficient to travel. Occasionally lifting items weighing up to 30 lbs. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports. Required ability to sit for long periods of time. Regular and consistent attendance on the job is an essential function.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office environment. Occasional evening or weekend work.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:



  1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Tax.
  2. Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Tax, preferred.
  3. CPA is required.
  4. Minimum of 20 years' real estate and REIT tax experience, in tax planning, tax compliance, tax and entity structuring, and financial analysis.
  5. Minimum of eight years' of managerial experience, required.
  6. Minimum of five years' experience with Sarbanes-Oxley audit programs and practices.
  7. Must have and maintain a valid driver's license unless otherwise noted.

Salary Range:
* $250,000.00/yr. - $300,000.00/yr., depends on experience
