The Position

The Opportunity

The Executive Director & Head of Scientific Collaborations/Alliances/Registry management -Oncology Hematology at Genentech will drive strategies for collaborations and spearhead relationships with external organizations (Like NCI/NCTN COOP groups, large multi-center research organizations & practice networks, and other research organizations & registries) for Genentech to be the leader and partner of choice for innovative scientific/clinical research. This role will lead and manage a high-performing team of medical directors and medical science directors to drive and operationalize (e.g. set up various collaborative research mechanisms/partnership models; budget management) strategic external collaboration and alliances, support medical team disease area and product strategies through external collaboration, devise evidence generation strategies for molecule lifecycles in collaboration with internal and global partners, and manage studies with potential registrational intent through facilitating strategic and scientific discussions and decisions across key stakeholders. Key responsibilities also involve leading NCTN COOP group meeting coverage, optimizing E2E congress engagements and execution of cross-portfolio content and engagement/communication strategy for scientific congresses, and facilitating relationships and leading the scientific engagement with Senior leaders from key Oncology and Hematology medical societies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy Development: Drive strategy and key decisions for collaborations to be the leader and partner of choice in Oncology Hematology for innovative scientific research. Collaborate with key internal stakeholders to establish overarching Scientific Collaborations strategies and guide direct reports to develop disease area/inline and pipeline molecule specific external Scientific Collaboration Strategies.

  • Portfolio Leadership and Delivery: Establish ongoing strategic partnership and dialogue with key external stakeholders as applicable including NCI/NCTN, oncology cooperative groups e.g. SWOG, ECOG, practice networks and other research organizations, as well as alliances e.g. MDACC senior executives.

  • Strategic Partnership with Stakeholders: Establish strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to identify and pursue project opportunities to continually optimize and advance Genentech leadership in collaborative scientific research.

  • New Methodologies and Innovation: Stay informed of the external landscape and educate others on relevant impacts.

  • People and Team Development: Foster a high-performing team environment, provide departmental leadership, and ensure staff have clear roles, development opportunities, and resources.

Who you are

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Post-graduate degree required (e.g. MS, MD, PhD, PharmD)

  • 10-15+ years experience in pharma/biotech

  • Scientific credibility, enterprise thinking, and in-depth understanding of NCI/NCTN program and external research collaborations.

  • Expert knowledge of Genentech/Roche products/services and medical affairs/product development functions.

  • Outstanding interpersonal, team leadership, and matrix management skills.

  • Thorough knowledge of R&D processes and global biopharmaceutical landscape.

  • Strong influencing, negotiating, and target-meeting skills.

  • Prior people management and relevant therapeutic area knowledge.

Preferred Experience:

  • 10+ years experience in Medical Affairs or Product Development

Travel Requirements

The position is preferred to be located in South San Francisco. The position may require up to an additional 50% time traveling.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $318,600 - 591,800. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
