Staff Research Associate I - Pediatrics Neonatology

Description

The Department of Pediatrics and California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI) are seeking a motivated Staff Research Associate I (SRA 1) to support cutting edge microbiome-based research. Under the supervision of the PI and Senior Research Scientist, the SRA 1 will conduct molecular biology work, including genomic DNA extraction, precision cloning and allelic exchange, deep metagenomic sequencing, Western blots, flow cytometry, gel electrophoresis, bioinformatic analyses, and tissue collection from mice. In addition, the SRA 1 will assist other laboratory personnel with the maintenance of equipment and general laboratory tasks. The SRA 1 should possess strong organizational abilities, keen attention to detail, effective multitasking skills, and excellent communication capabilities.

Please note that this is a full-time 18 month limited position and may convert to career.

Salary Range: $26.52 - $31.63/Hourly

Qualifications

Required:



  • Knowledge of standard laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work well with multiple individuals.
  • Ability to maintain a clean and organized working area.
  • Ability to keep accurate and organized lab records.
  • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously and to switch focus as needed.
  • Knowledge of chemistry to prepare solutions for lab experiments.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures for handling chemical and biohazard waste.
  • Knowledge of basic molecular biology techniques.
  • Working knowledge and ability in the use of computers (PC and MAC operating systems).
  • Skill in using various computer software.
  • Excellent attention to detail for accurate data entry and analysis.
  • Ability to complete tasks in an orderly and timely fashion.
  • Skill in writing clear and concise correspondence.
  • Willingness to accommodate a flexible work schedule, including occasional overtime to meet deadlines.


Preferred:



  • B.S. degree or equivalent in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or related field.
  • Knowledge of IRB protocols and applications.
  • General knowledge of University procedures.
  • Appropriate time management skills.
