Senior Strategy Manager: Pricing, Contracting & Distribution (Access Strategy)

The Position

In this role, you will lead the development and execution of access strategies - primarily focused on pricing, contracting and distribution strategies for an assigned therapeutic area, multiple Genentech products, and/or segments. You will work to optimize patient access, the value of Genentech's portfolio, and competitive advantage. You will also have the opportunity to drive cross-portfolio strategic access initiatives.

The expectation is that the initial focus for this role will be on Genentech's Ophthalmology portfolio, which includes:

  • Vabysmo - a breakthrough treatment and major growth engine

  • Susvimo - an innovative drug-device combination with a unique port delivery system

  • Lucentis - a pioneering therapy in the treatment of retinal diseases

Rotation across other therapeutic areas is expected over time. This approach fosters cross-portfolio exposure, aids in growth and development, and enables responsiveness to evolving business needs.

This role will require you to leverage and embed enterprise capabilities in contract performance analytics for large Therapeutic Area programs, the integration of value and evidence into pricing and contracting strategy, considerations around policy and pricing, and enhanced cross-portfolio informed decision making, including management of revenue and risk. This includes leading cross-functional strategy development teams, building effective relationships across all Therapeutic Area Squads (Leadership Teams) and Customer Engagement (Field) Leadership relevant to the assigned therapeutic area(s) and scenario analysis/modeling for overall financial and legal viability. Given the evolving healthcare & regulatory landscape, you will work very closely with leaders across Government Affairs, Corporate Communications, and other Marketing Leadership to appropriately communicate the value of our products and make value informed decisions for pricing, contracting, distribution, and access issues that will support Genentech's leadership role in sustainably providing innovative medicines.

Your work directly supports Genentech's mission to enhance the value of our medicines, expand patient access, and enable future innovation by optimizing net revenue. You will have a meaningful impact on GNE's P&L, our ability to compete effectively, and on our ability to maintain patient access.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead development of comprehensive patient access strategies and act as a thought leader in collaboration with cross-functional partners

  • Lead identification and recommendations to assess strategy effectiveness for all products within the assigned therapeutic area(s) across all stages of the lifecycle

  • Lead launch pricing and inline pricing recommendations, balancing market needs and financial goals

  • Shape and recommend payer contracting strategies to meet goals for formulary access (coverage)

  • Mitigate provider access barriers to enable prescriber choice

  • Define channel and distribution models, including network design, concession strategies, and data and service agreements

  • Inform early and late stage pipeline and business development (e.g., acquisitions, partnerships) market access assumptions

  • Use and refine models, system, and tools that support market access contract decision making (e.g., contract/no contract forecasting methodologies)

  • Embody the adoption of profitability analyses, contract effectiveness, and data based decision making

  • Conduct or commission market research and competitive analysis

  • Stay abreast of macro trends and policies impacting the healthcare environment that potentially affect current and/or future strategies

  • Consider and articulate operational complexities and execution / pull-through implications for all recommended strategies.

  • Partner closely with internal stakeholders across Therapeutic Area squads (VPs and functional leaders), customer-facing teams, marketing, legal, global affiliates, operations, insights, analytics, and the broader Access organization

  • Some decisions will require CEO and / or US Leadership Team approval

Skills

  • Demonstrated expertise in managed care, pricing, contracting, and/or distribution strategy

  • Strong ability to frame, synthesize, and communicate complex analysis and access topics concisely to senior stakeholders

  • Demonstrated evidence of strategic agility to scenario-plan and translate a vision into a competitive advantage

  • Strong ability to build and influence senior-level, cross-functional partnerships

  • Strategic thinker with a passion for improving patient access while delivering on business outcomes

  • Travel expectations (Global/Domestic) is less than 15%

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree

  • 2-5 + years' cross-functional experience in account management, channel management, contracting, finance, health economics, managed care, market research, marketing, pricing, strategic planning and/or other related fields within the pharmaceutical/biotechnology or related industry (e.g., healthcare)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education Concentration in General business, managed health care, or finance disciplines

  • MBA or other related Graduate-level degree is preferred (e.g., PharmD or PhD)

  • You have strong analytical skills and financial acumen, analyzing, synthesizing and summarizing financial and qualitative data; and translating this into valuable business insights

  • You have strong strategic agility: understands pharmaceutical/biotechnology or related industry and the associated business models . Experience in Ophthalmology is a plus but not expected or required.

  • You have a proven ability & track record in communicating complex topics in a user-friendly manner and influencing others effectively without authority.

  • You have strong partnering skills: has effective working relationships with internal and external partners/stakeholders

  • You have organizational & time management skills: ability to effectively manage and complete multiple priorities and projects

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $158,300/yr to $294,100/yr. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
