The Environmental Intern at Tyler Pipe will gain hands-on experience in various environmental management activities. This role involves assisting in developing and maintaining the environmental management system under the direction of the Environmental Manager. The intern will work on projects related to day-to-day environmental functions, compliance, and promoting a positive EHS culture.

Job Description
  • Assist in ensuring facility compliance with Federal and State Air regulations, RCRA, SPCC, SWPPP, NPDES, DOT, and EPCRA.
  • Develop an understanding of the facility's environmental functions and programs.
  • Lead environmental improvement projects aimed at pollution prevention and cultivating a positive EHS culture.
  • Assist with the preparation of safety and environmental reports.
  • Organize training sessions and maintain associated paperwork.
  • Update EMS Work Instructions and assist in communicating EHS information to employees.
  • Perform clerical duties such as filing, data entry, making copies, and preparing training packets.
  • Participate in facility environmental audits and incident investigations.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and assist with implementing solutions for incident investigations.
  • Review technical problems and procedures of departments and recommend solutions or changes.
  • Ensure personal safety and the safety of team members by wearing appropriate PPE and reporting unsafe conditions or incidents promptly.
Qualifications
  • Actively pursuing a bachelor's degree in an environmental-related discipline, chemistry, engineering, or a related field. (REQUIRED)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct research into PC and application issues.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with a positive attitude and good work ethic.
  • Understanding of federal, state, and local environmental standards and regulations.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, sitting, using hands, reaching, talking, and hearing, with occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and tasting or smelling. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and distance vision.
  • Work environment includes occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high places, fumes, outside weather conditions, and extreme heat. Noise level is usually moderate.
  • Teamwork by helping and volunteering across a variety of tasks.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and always follow all safety rules/procedures.
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality.
