Overview
Job Purpose The Senior Engineer, Mainframe Network role is a part of the Mainframe Technical Services team, which provides support functions to ensure Mortgage Technology mainframe-based customers realize optimum system performance and availability. Responsibilities
- Provide L2/L3 support for all responsibility area related issues.
- Respond to and assist in production operations in a 24/7 environment.
- Coordinate with internal users, operations staff, and vendor resources to identify root causes of issues.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours support based on escalations.
- Conduct technical analysis, resolve problems, and propose solutions for complex cross discipline issues.
- Serve as a resource for or potentially lead project-driven initiatives.
- Identify and automate manual tasks using scripting and application development.
- Modifies, installs and prepares technical documentation for system software applications.
Knowledge and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience.
- Expert experience in the Senior Engineer's mainframe subject area.
- Expert experience in configuration management within mainframe subject area.
- Expert understanding of mainframe area related technologies.
- Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a service-oriented team environment.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Customer-focused and dedicated to providing the best possible user experience.
- Effective communication skills with both technical and business resources.

Mainframe Storage Discipline Skills
- Expert level experience with DFSMS, Copy Services, HSM, DFDSS, and ICF catalogs.
- Subject matter expert with mainframe tape management systems, preferably TLMS.
- Subject matter expert with IBM VTS (virtual tape) and DS8K storage hardware.
- Subject matter expert with cloud backup solutions, preferably Model9.
Mainframe Network Discipline Skills
- Subject matter expert with Netview, VPS, Jes2Mail and IBM Policy Agent.
- Subject matter expert knowledge of certificate management tools, preferably Venafi.
- Subject matter expert knowledge of Network troubleshooting tools: Splunk, firewall reporting, network packet traces.
- Mentors those in lower-level positions involved in more complex Mainframe network changes.
Mainframe Capacity Planning Discipline Skills
- Expert user of RMF Workload Delay Monitor, SAS (WPS) for reporting, JCL, SDSF, 3270 emulator, TSO and REXX.
- Expert user of Omegamon, Workload Manager, Strobe, and SMF data and MXG databases for reporting and troubleshooting.
- Advanced knowledge of non-Mainframe tools - Intellimagic, distributed server performance monitors as they relate to understanding workloads on the mainframe.
- Responsible for Capacity reporting data. Independently research complex issues, and report/summarize more complex SMF-based statistics.
Mainframe Automation Discipline Skills
- Subject matter expert with mainframe System Automation.
- Subject matter expert with GDPS replication and Mainframe Storage Replication.
- Subject matter expert with advanced programming skills, REXX preferred.
- Broad experience working with multiple areas of mainframe support and operations.
Mainframe Operating System Discipline Skills
- Expert level experience configuring and supporting IBM Mainframe System Software, including z/OS and related products.
- Expert level experience with mainframe technologies such as HLASM, COBOL, JCL, REXX, CLIST, TSO, ISPF, and SMPE.
- Expert knowledge of Mainframe Z Series hardware.
- Advanced knowledge of basic Parallel Sysplex processing, GDPS, and disaster recovery techniques.
- Expert level experience using the Z Series Hardware Management Console to configure and IPL mainframe LPARs.
Mainframe Database Discipline Skills
- Expert proficiency in DB2, its components and operation.
- Expert knowledge and experience with DB2 SQL and performance tuning operations.
- Expert experience with DB2 backup/recovery processes and other IBM utilities.
- Advanced experience with DB2 Security Management and security policies, including RACF external security management.
- Experience with SMPE and related system update functions in support of DB2.
Mainframe Online Discipline Skills
- Expert understanding of CICS Transaction Server, its components and interaction with applications.
- Advanced experience in CICS Performance Tuning and Troubleshooting with tools such as Omegamon and Abendaid.
- Expert in CICS Security Management and understanding of how it controls user access.
- Expert with RMF Workload Delay Monitor, VSAM statistics and REXX.
- Experience with CICS System upgrades and Maintenance, SMPE and related system update functions in support of CICS.
The expected base salary for this role is between $135,600 - $167,220 USD. The base salary range does not include Intercontinental Exchange's incentive compensation. While we provide this range as general guidance, at ICE we compensate employees based on the skillset and experience of the individual.
