Level 3:

  • Estimated annual base pay: $95,600.00 (minimum) - $119,500.00 (midpoint) - $143,400.00 (maximum)

Level 4:

  • Estimated annual base pay: $116,400.00 (minimum) - $145,500.00 (midpoint) - $174,600.00 (maximum)

Are you ready to make your mark? If you're a Staff Materials Engineer, we have an exciting opportunity for you. The Staff Materials Engineer provides advanced engineering expertise and leadership in materials science, metallurgy, and special processes. This role involves conducting complex material evaluations, contamination analyses, and innovative research assignments, as well as supporting audits, engineering changes, and process improvements.

What You Will Be Doing

Level 3:

  • Performs advanced material tests (e.g., intergranular attack, viscosity, specific gravity, salt fog, microstructure evaluation, hardness testing, coating evaluations) and conducts contamination and failure analyses, including complex system-level investigations
  • Supports internal, supplier, customer, and third-party audits, oversees engineering changes, process modifications, and specialized activities like castings and forgings
  • Conducts metallurgical evaluations, qualifications of braze/weld joints, EDM surfaces, and consumables, while supporting design reviews and new material/process implementations
  • Represents the company with external suppliers and customers, addresses nonconformances with corrective actions, and provides technical follow-ups
  • Creates, modifies, and approves work instructions, procedures, specifications, and processing documents to ensure compliance with standards
  • Mentors junior engineers, develops self-improvement plans, and supports specialized engineering activities

Level 4:

  • Performs advanced tests (e.g., intergranular attack, viscosity, specific gravity, salt fog, macro/microhardness, coating evaluations, and contamination analysis) and conducts demanding failure analysis
  • Supports internal, supplier, customer, and third-party audits, oversees engineering and process changes, and ensures compliance with standards
  • Conducts metallurgical evaluations, qualifications (e.g., braze/weld joints, EDM surfaces), and research assignments involving new materials, processes, and technologies
  • Represents the company with suppliers and customers, participates in design reviews, and addresses nonconformance issues with corrective actions
  • Creates, modifies, and approves work instructions, procedures, specifications, and processing documents
  • Leads small teams or parts of teams, promotes cross-functional collaboration, and communicates effectively with suppliers and customers. Provides technical direction, drafts specifications, and uses diplomacy to facilitate cooperation in team environments
  • Acts as a subject matter expert in one or more functional areas (example: failure analysis, heat treatment, brazing, etc.)
  • Mentors engineers at all levels and supports specialized activities like castings, forgings, and special processing

What We Are Looking For

Level 3:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Material Science, Metallurgy or equivalent.
  • 2-5 years of professional engineering experience or a combination of experience and advanced degree
  • Demonstrates advanced engineering knowledge, including systems and components, manufacturing processes, standards, and quantitative measurement techniques. Leads investigations, performs analytical calculations, initiates equipment calibration, and resolves complex issues effectively
  • Exhibits strong written/verbal communication and presentation skills, technical writing ability, and diplomacy in team environments. Leads teams and communicates with suppliers and customers regarding materials, processes, and specifications
  • Manages time effectively, prioritizes tasks based on business needs, leverages internal systems and resources, and supports reviews of internal/external specifications while ensuring safe and proper use of equipment

Level 4:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Material Science, Metallurgy or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience or Master's degree and a minimum of 5 years of professional engineering experience
  • Possesses deep expertise in materials, components, processes, and standards. Leads special process investigations, approves internal/external processes, mentors engineers, and involves external labs as needed. Skilled in quantitative measurement techniques, equipment calibration, and analytical problem-solving
  • Demonstrates advanced technical writing, presentation, and software skills. Strategically prioritizes business needs, supports internal systems, ensures the safe use of equipment, and helps draft/review supplier and customer specifications
