Purpose of Position
This position leads University Housing's communication and marketing functions including development of marketing strategies and oversight of a web content management system, digital signage program and departmental publications.
Primary Responsibilities
Communications

  • Create and communicate a comprehensive customer communications plan for University Housing.
  • Compose timely student-focused emails regarding key department processes.
  • Ensure ADA compliance in print and electronic publications, videos and the housing website.


Marketing

  • Oversee new housing marketing initiatives including supervision of housing student marketing interns.
  • Create and implement the annual department marketing plan to promote on-campus living, including special emphasis during annual room selection.
  • Provide marketing research services to target and respond to new program areas and fine-tune marketing strategies. Remain proficient and aware of new media potentials and capitalize on cutting edge trends and technologies to effectively communicate with housing stakeholders.
  • Conceptualize, coordinate and produce print and electronic publications.
  • Serve as department contact for licensing issues and to ensure appropriate use of NKU and housing logos. Serve as an editor and reviewer of other housing offices' communications/promotional materials.
  • Establish and maintain a complete knowledge of the local housing market for university students and update the local rental housing market report annually.
  • Coordinate and present housing information to returning, prospective and newly admitted NKU students and their families. Coordinate residence hall tours throughout the year for internal and external constituents.

Web Development
  • Oversee web operations including website and social media platforms.
Collaboration

  • Maintain a knowledge base of all housing functions, Division of Student Affairs functions, and general university offices.
  • Participate on departmental and University task forces and committees as needed, as well as participate in other professional development activities.

Policy Management
  • Maintain departmental policies and procedures manual ensuring all policies follow manual format and are placed in the appropriate location for access.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, journalism, research, advertising and/or public relations, or related field.


  • Three years of professional communications or public relations work experience. Strong typing and computer skills; knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and database capabilities. Good communication skills, organization skills, and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills (e.g., excellent writing skills and copy-editing ability as well as oral presentation skills) with the ability to promote and share the impact of a program to various audiences.
  • Well-developed portfolio of work examples in which the applicant served as the lead designer.
  • Ability to work creatively and independently with excellent project and content management skills with the ability to multitask and set priorities.
  • Proficiency in MAC operating systems and in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign and Photoshop, as well as other office software (e.g., Word, Prezi).
  • Ability to understand and accurately interpret information and develop appropriate responses.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of constituents to creatively resolve problems and develop solutions.
  • Experience with mobile technology and coordinating social media activities for various accounts (e.g., Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, YouTube and Snapchat) as well as experience with social media management systems.
