DESCRIPTION-

The Center for Neuroscience at the University of California Davis is recruiting for a full-time Junior Specialist in the field of cognitive and clinical systems neuroscience to support research on intracranial recordings and adaptive deep brain stimulation for cognitive and emotional dysfunction in patients with Parkinson's disease.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DESIGNATED AREAS OF EXPERTISE

The Junior Specialist has the general duties of working closely with the Principal Investigator in the planning and execution of a research project. The junior specialist may assist in patient recruitment, data collection, entry and quality control, maintenance of laboratory inventory, study design and implementation, literature reviews and data analysis for preparation of manuscripts and grants and coordination of IRB submissions and amendments.

The incumbent will work under the supervision of Dr. Carina Oehrn and have the ability to work cooperatively and collegially in a diverse environment.

DEGREE REQUIREMENT- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent degree) with a major in neuroscience, psychology, biomedical engineering, computer science, or a related field

RESEARCH- 90%

The incumbent will collaborate with research personnel involved in projects focused on intracranial recordings, electroencephalography (EEG), and adaptive deep brain stimulation for cognitive and emotional dysfunction in Parkinson's disease. The Junior Specialist will carry out technical and routine tasks necessary to advance the research objectives in this specialized field. Specific duties may include:



  1. Planning and executing research activities related to cognitive neuroscience, EEG, andneuromodulation.
  2. Assisting with the preparation of grant proposals.
  3. Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to support publication-quality research.
  4. Reviewing scientific literature and manuscripts relevant to the research area.
  5. Recruiting participants for clinical studies.
  6. Conducting structured phone interviews to screen potential research participants.
  7. Managing the EEG laboratory, including ordering supplies, scheduling use, and coordinating routine maintenance.
  8. Assisting with EEG recordings during cognitive and behavioral testing sessions.


PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE-5%

The Junior Specialist may also contribute to departmental seminars, journal clubs, and collaborative meetings within the Center for Neuroscience and the Department of Neurological Surgery, as appropriate. The Junior Specialist is encouraged to attend and present at scientific meetings, such as the Society for Neuroscience conference.

UNIVERSITY AND PUBLIC SERVICE-5%

The Junior Specialist may be expected to provide mentorship to undergraduate research assistants who rotate through the lab. They will be expected to participate and contribute to laboratory and group meetings, departmental or university activities, as applicable.

QUALIFICATIONS (Basic qualifications are required at time of application).

*Research experience in cognitive neuroscience, neurophysiology, or a related specialty

*Experience working in a research laboratory and using EEG, intracranial recordings,neuroimaging, or neuromodulation techniques

*Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and make critical decisions

*Strong organizational and time management skills

*Excellent written and oral communication skills, including experience drafting research reports,manuscripts, or grant materials and demonstrated ability to summarize and communicatecomplex scientific findings clearly and concisely

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

*Familiarity with MATLAB, Python, or other scientific programming languages

*Experience with data preprocessing and analysis for electrophysiological signals

*Knowledge of human research regulations and IRB procedures

*Experience recruiting research participants

*Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with patients in a compassionate andrespectful manner

*Prior involvement in research on Parkinson's disease or neuromodulation

*Attention to detail and commitment to data integrity and reproducibility
