Job Summary

Oversee accounting and financial reporting for the U.S. holding company, assist with monthly investment accounting for all companies, participate in the preparation of Company SEC filings.

Duties and Responsibilities



  • Supervise the work of a staff accountant to include accounts payable, bank reconciliations, and recurring journal entries.
  • Lead monthly close process for the U.S. holding company - preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, review of trial balance, financial statement preparation including analytics.
  • Assist with monthly close process for Bermuda holding company including journal entry preparation and account reconciliations.
  • Review and post monthly investment entries prepared by outside investment accountants. Reconcile investment holdings and activity to supporting reports and custodial accounts. Prepare investment income analytics.
  • Accounting for the Company's private investment portfolio including equity method investments in renewable energy and limited partnerships.
  • Prepare quarter-end financial reporting packages and schedules.
  • Assist with the Company's SEC filings - financial tables in press releases, financial footnotes, MD&A, investor presentations, document tie-outs.
  • Participate in budgeting, forecasting, and other special projects as needed.
  • Adherence to Company internal controls and accounting policies.


  • Provide client assistance as needed for internal and external audits.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel


  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills



Experience and Education

Senior Accountant



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred
  • Property and Casualty insurance experience a plus
  • Investment accounting experience a plus


  • SEC reporting experience a plus



Staff Accountant II



  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance or related required
  • CPA designation strongly preferred
  • Five years' experience in corporate and/or public accountancy or finance roles required
  • Two years of hands-on accounting experience within the Property and Casualty Insurance industry strongly preferred



Assistant Manager, Accounting



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related required; Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum of six years of hands-on accounting experience with GAAP or statutory accounting required
  • CPA designation strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of insurance operations and/or specific functional operations is preferred
  • Experience in a highly-regulated and/or financial services environment is preferred
  • Prior management experience preferred



Manager, Accounting



  • Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles
  • Strong knowledge of successful accounting operations and internal control processes
  • Working familiarity with enterprise-level financial systems and data architectures
  • Ability to cultivate and manage numerous internal and external relationships, including management, business partners, regulators and suppliers
  • Ability to recruit, manage, motivate, and develop others
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong work ethic with a drive to succeed; high level of initiative and motivation
  • Proactive self-starter with a bias toward teamwork
  • Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple deadlines
  • Desire to embrace flexibility in a rapidly changing environment
  • Intermediate to expert level proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
