The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Columbia University School of General Studies (GS) is the finest liberal arts college in the United States dedicated to making Ivy League education accessible to nontraditional students. GS was founded in 1947 on the mission of expanding access to elite higher education, and it remains the most diverse college in the Ivy League, with many transfer, first-generation, and international students. GS students are fully integrated with Columbia's broader undergraduate population and are taught by Columbia's celebrated faculty.

The NYC Scholars Assistant, Variable Hours Officer is a temporary position, and part of the larger Strategic Initiatives team. The NYC Scholars Assistant's main responsibility is to support the design, implementation, and launch of the NYC Scholars Program, a new collaboration between Columbia University School of General Studies and the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC).

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Associate Director for Domestic Programs, working closely with the GS Strategic Initiatives team at Columbia, the NYC Scholars Graduate Assistant will work closely with internal GS teams and with colleagues at BMCC, primarily in support of the creation and launch of the NYC Scholars Program. The NYC Scholars Program Graduate Assistants main duties include:



  • Design, plan, and oversee mentorship program for NYC Scholars students at both GS and BMCC.
  • Write, design, and oversee the distribution of communications and related materials.
  • Plan and execute program promotional events with BMCC.
  • Coordinate implementation of University Writing course.
  • Coordinate with representatives of CUNY system.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications




  • Bachelors degree and/or equivalent related experience required, advanced degree preferred.



  • Must be able to adjust to multiple demands and shifting priorities and be a team player.



  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership, and organizational skills.



  • Knowledge of MS Office required.
