Essential Job Duties
We are seeking a highly skilled journey-level Facilities Maintenance Technician to join our Building Maintenance and Operations department. In this role, you will specialize in the maintenance, repair, and operation of heating, cooling, and steam/hot water boiler systems. You will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems within a dynamic maintenance service zone. Key responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain, repair, and install HVAC systems, including air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating equipment
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair steam/hot water boilers and auxiliary equipment, such as pumps, condensate receivers, steam lines, pressure-reducing stations, air compressors, and water softeners
  • Perform preventive maintenance per manufacturer guidelines on refrigeration and air conditioning equipment
  • Conduct electrical work up to 600 VAC, including installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical panels, breakers, switchgear, magnetic starters, disconnects, motors, and lighting systems
  • Troubleshoot and repair control systems, including temperature controls, regulators, humidity controllers, sensors, pneumatic control valves, and regulators
  • Install and maintain plumbing systems, including cutting, threading, assembling, and installing pipes, valves, and fixtures for gas, water, and sanitation systems
  • Perform pipefitting and insulation work related to steam and water distribution systems
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and best practices while performing all duties

Other Responsibilities

  • Participate in the on-call program
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications


Minimum Experience/Education
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification(s).

Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Other Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrate through work, a depth of knowledge and skills for pneumatic controls, as well as DDC type of controls
  • Must be able to communicate verbally with supervisors and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodations

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the trades areas of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing
Required License or Certification

  • Valid driver's license required
  • NC driver's license within 60 days of hire and must be maintained
