Where you will work

The Cypress Bend facility is located in the historic Mississippi River Delta and produces bleached paperboard and bleached Kraft pulp, used in the production of folding cartons, commercial print paperboard, carded packaging, and cup stock. This facility boasts over 300 talented employees and stretches across 730 acres. Clearwater Paper employees are proud to manufacture a high-quality product for an essential industry.

Cypress Bend is a rural community with close access to the Mississippi River. This is a wonderful location for those who love the outdoors and offers plenty of activities including fishing, hiking, camping, and biking. The Cypress Bend area also offers several opportunities for social and civic involvement including the McGehee Hospital, McGehee Boys & Girls Club, Food Pantry, Chamber of Commerce, Arkansas City Food Pantry, Paws and Claws Humane Society, and the Polite Foundation. Cypress Bend emphasizes exposure to the arts including the WWII Japanese Internment Museum, Desha County Museum, and SEArk Concert Association. Cypress Bend is in close proximity to McGehee, Monticello, and Drew Central public schools as well as UAM McGehee College of Technology and UAM Crossett College of Technology.

What you will do

You will lead a team of manufacturing operators at a fully integrated, complex, manufacturing site that includes pulping, power/recovery and papermaking processes. This exciting opportunity is focused on the development of the team to meet tomorrow's challenges today and while maintaining multimillion-dollar capital assets to deliver quality products.

Leadership



  • Work closely with operations supervisors/leaders, maintenance personnel, planning department and appropriate department personnel to assure that all manufacturing activities are coordinated and executed to established plans and schedules while meeting customer specifications.
  • Manages and provides direction for the activities of employees to meet goals while balancing quality, productivity, performance, cost, safety, environmental, and morale of the team to achieve positive results in all areas.
  • Accountable for daily management of operating resources on assigned shift, performance management, as well as positive and productive employee and labor relations.
  • Builds organizational capabilities (structure, leadership competencies and organizational talent mix) and reinforces a culture of driving industry leading performance, ensuring the team has proper training and tools to meet or exceed departmental and mill goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrates leadership and leads change.
  • Responsible for weekend and nightly mill wide calls, as assigned.
  • Responsible for reviewing time records and scheduling of employees and payroll approval process.


Safety Leadership



  • Guides and develops crews to effectively work in a safe manner, ensuring the safety performance and adherence to safety programs for the department, promoting a safety culture and administering accountability for unsafe behaviors.
  • Provides regular inspections of work areas to assure that good housekeeping practices are followed and that all department areas, equipment and tools are kept in good repair.
  • Responsible for leading resources in the development of safety SOPs (Standard Operating Procedure) and Guidelines.
  • Ensure structured, constructive safety meetings are conducted and follow up on resolutions for those items of concern which are brought up in safety meetings.
  • Reviews all safety incidents in the department/assigned area and participates in developing cause maps.
  • Ensures compliance with all environmental OSHA, labor, and government regulation.


Continuous Improvement



  • Supports and demonstrates the values of continuous improvement, learning and shared accomplishment.
  • Leads the team to improve processes by identifying and eliminating non-value-added activities (waste); may prepare and distribute information regarding changes to policies and procedures as a result of problem-solving activity.
  • Utilizes strong problem-solving skills to ensure corrective actions for employee and/or production issues are defined and established, bringing open items to closure in a timely manner.
  • Communicates to all levels of the organization as needed and participates with key partners from other areas of the mill to coordinate activities.


What you will need

To be successful in this position, we are looking for candidates with the following:



  • High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree in management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of industry experience, specifically in the papermaking industry with a focus on chemical pulp production, demonstrated knowledge in bleaching pulp the production of SBS, and management of woodyards/piles.
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience

The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience among other factors. Benefits are generally available after 30 days and include medical, dental, vision, life, disability coverage, employee assistance program, and a 401k plan. Paid time off will include vacation days, personal days, and company holidays.
