College Intern - Planning

RK&K has provided planning, engineering, environmental, and construction phase services to the public and private sectors since 1923. We have an exceptional record of leading project development, NEPA-compliance, and permitting for some of the most complex infrastructure projects in the United States. We are currently seeking an intern to join our team of experts in Baltimore, MD. Our interns receive on-the-job training, mentorship and insight into various aspects of the multiple Federal, state and local projects for transportation and other clients. Individuals will be exposed to various challenges, projects and technology related the environmental planning discipline.

As a paid intern in our Environmental Planning Department, you will:

• Supports coordination among engineers, design teams and a wide range of environmental disciplines (e.g., cultural resources, natural resources, community resources, air, noise, and hazardous materials.
• Performs NEPA and/or environmental compliance (environmental reviews) for public infrastructure projects by conducting research, tracking and organizing information, evaluating environmental impacts and alternatives, and preparing documents and technical reports.
• Supports studies in compliance with NEPA, Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, Section 404 of the Clean Water Act, Section 4(f) of the US Department of Transportation Act, and other related state and federal regulations.
• Supports coordination with project clients, regulatory agencies, stakeholders and elected officials.
• Supports public involvement programs, outreach materials, and public comment responses.
• Assist with GIS / spatial analysis of environmental issues and impacts while applying knowledge of local, state, and federal requirements
• Fully engage in solving problems to provide technical evaluation and sound solutions

Required Skills and Experience:

• Currently pursuing a degree in environmental planning or related field.
• Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel)
• Proficient knowledge of GIS Software (ArcGIS, ArcPro)
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Valid driver's license
