Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

This paragraph summarizes the general nature, level and purpose of the job.

The Respiratory Care Manager oversees the activities of the Respiratory Care Department, working collaboratively with interdisciplinary hospital leadership to ensure best patient care and practices. The Respiratory Therapy Manager will promote staff development and will be an expert in the field to assist staff if needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.
  • Performs management functions by interviewing, selecting and providing training for new staff; by approving or disapproving recommendations from subordinate staff on personnel actions; by evaluating subordinates' performance; by hearing and resolving employee grievances; and by determining the need for and initiating disciplinary action in order to ensure adequate and competent staffing for the agency, program, division or institution. Accountable for the performance and results for the Respiratory Therapy department.
  • Guided by department plan and business objectives the Manager directs, coordinates, and provides leadership to the Respiratory department including cost and financial accountability for the department. Applies understanding of the business and how own and other teams integrates with others to achieve departmental objectives. Contributes to the focus of the department plan and priorities to support the department business plans.
  • Approves and executes improvements to operating policies and procedures for the department. Identifies and drives business, product, service, and process improvements. Builds consensus in leading projects and activities across teams.
  • Identifies and resolves technical, operational, and organizational problems; considers multiple sources of information to identify the best course of action for the department.
  • Participates in preparing and administering the budget for Respiratory Therapy; continuously monitors and verifies expenditures to ensure that they are within budgetary limits.
  • Assists in the development of area policies and plans that guide and support the provision of services and ensures that policies and procedures are compatible with the function and goals of LPCHS and which meet the external regulatory and statutory requirements.
  • Effectively maintains appropriate quality control programs in response to internal standards of care and external requirements.
  • Coordinates and integrates services within department with other departments by continually collaborating with other managers. Guides, influences and persuades others internally and/or externally, including executives, vendors and regulators
  • Continuously assesses and improves department's performance based on "customer" needs; directs and participates in improving performance and services which benefit staff and patients.
  • Recommends space and other resources needed by the department to meet patient and staff needs.
  • In coordination with the Clinical Specialists and the Assistant Manager, facilitates orientation, training and ongoing staff development.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in a work-related field/discipline from an accredited college or university.
Experience:
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience
License/Certification:
  • Must be licensed by the State of California as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP).
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC),
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Certification for Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers.
  • Certification for Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from the AHA,
  • Current American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Certification for Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP).
  • Neonatal-Pediatric Specialist credential (RRT-NPS).
KNOWLEDGE

These are the observable and measurable attributes and skills required to perform successfully the essential functions of the job and are generally demonstrated through qualifying experience, education or licensure/certification.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels and in situations requiring instructing, persuading, negotiating, conflict resolution, consulting and advising as well as prepare clear, comprehensive written and oral reports and materials.
  • Ability to develop long-range business plans and strategies.
  • Ability to manage a function or multiple departments.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and resources (people, costs, time).
  • Ability to provide leadership and influence others.
  • Knowledge of clinical applications of gas humidity and aerosol therapy, positive pressure breathing treatments, assisted and controlled mechanical ventilation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and chest physical therapy.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods and techniques of administering sustaining gases and their effect on the human body

Pay Range
Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.
Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.
Minimum to Midpoint Range (Hourly): $67.80 to $89.91
