Description

Working primarily from the North and West Gate Houses, controls access to CMA property per written guidelines and operates as EHS support personnel within the EHS Department. Secure gates when leaving guard house location for rounds and inspections. The EHS Technician is employed to be an extension of the EHS group to perform various environmental and safety inspections/tasks to aid the plant in sustaining a world class EHS culture. The EHS Technician is also solely responsible for all entry and exit to the plant site as a nonuniformed, unarmed fire watchman, gatekeeper, and security officer with no delegated or assigned arrest authority.

Duties and Responsibilities

Gatehouse Safety



  • Perform oversight of all premises to monitor company, personal property, and personnel against unauthorized entry, fire, theft, vandalism, and other hazards.
  • Make scheduled rounds about buildings and grounds, examining doors, windows, and gates to ensure that they are property secured during off hours.
  • Ensure identification of Associates upon entrance to property.
  • Maintain and utilize the active approved contractor list prior to any contractor entry.
  • Examine the credentials of individuals prior to admittance and work with plant personnel to notify appropriate personnel of arrival of guest(s).
  • Direct guests to front office and directs trucks making deliveries and pick-ups to appropriate area.
  • Answer and route incoming calls in a professional manner
  • Work with others to achieve an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement.
  • Follows written entry / exit procedures.
  • Maintain written log of all visitors entering and leaving the facility including time of arrival and departure and Associate contact.
  • Report maintenance needs of the facility and grounds identified during rounds to supervisor
  • Notify appropriate responsible party when irregularities are noted, including contacting 911 if necessary
  • Informs appropriate personnel in the event of an emergency, maintains order and safety of personnel
  • Make announcements over plant Radio for weather, etc.
  • Maintain housekeeping of gatehouses


  • Inspections of various safety and environmental equipment
  • Material being taken out with material release forms
  • Handling of manifests and tickets for EHS Dept. for recycling/trash disposal
  • Monitoring of Fire Panel alarms in Main Guard Shack
  • Perform other related security and or environmental duties as assigned.

  • Weekly Safety Shower and Eye Wash Stations
  • First Aid Cabinets
  • Hand Sanitizer Stations
  • Eye Wash Bottles
  • AEDs
  • Water Cannons and PIVs
  • Storm Water
  • Spill Prevention
  • Waste Accumulation
  • Perform any other EHS inspections as assigned though the EHS Department


Skills and Specifications



  • Ability to utilize/operate a computer, peripheral equipment and appropriate software. Ability to utilize/operate a multi-line telephone system.
  • Ability to utilize/operate a proximity wand during security rounds.
  • Possess a general knowledge of security techniques and procedures.
  • Knowledge of record keeping techniques and procedures.


Education and Qualifications



  • High school degree or GED required.
  • Minimum of one year of related experience required.
  • This position involves working with technologies and information which are subject to U.S. export control regulations. Under these regulations, Toray CMA must review certain candidate information including citizenship, basis of United States work authorization and country of origin. This information would be used for export control screening purposes only.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Job tasks are usually performed in a manufacturing environment.

Position requires the ability to read, write, speak and understand English at a level necessary to successfully perform assigned responsibilities. Position frequently requires the ability to make quick decisions related to safety and security issues. Ability to utilize interpersonal and teamwork skills, perform basic mathematical computations, follow directions and to understand and apply work specifications in the completion of work tasks. The ability to hear, speak, use hands/fingers and the repetitive motions of hands/wrists are occasional. Ability to occasionally lift 50 pounds. Vision abilities require the adjustment and focus of sight. Ability to be physically mobile and to climb stairs is required.
