Job Summary

Chartwells Higher Education is seeking a passionate and skilled Chef Manager to lead operations at Bowles Hall, a historic residential college on the UC Berkeley campus. Known for its strong sense of community and academic excellence, Bowles Hall offers an exceptional dining experience where students and faculty come together over thoughtfully prepared meals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead & Inspire - Oversee all kitchen operations, from food preparation to staff leadership.
  • Craft Exceptional Menus - Develop seasonal, high-quality menus tailored to the Bowles Hall community.
  • Ensure Food Quality & Safety - Maintain high culinary standards and strict food safety regulations.
  • Manage Finances - Oversee budgets, control costs, and drive financial performance.
  • Optimize Kitchen Operations - Streamline workflows, manage inventory, and minimize waste.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A.S. or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of three to five years of progressive culinary/kitchen management experience, depending upon formal degree or training
  • Extensive catering experience a plus
  • High volume, complex foodservice operations experience - highly desirable
  • Institutional and batch cooking experiences
  • Hands-on chef experience a must
  • Comprehensive knowledge of food and catering trends with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation
  • Must be experienced with computers; to include Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Power Point), Outlook, E-mail and the Internet
  • ServSafe certified - highly desirable
