We are currently seeking a full-time, on-site Analytical Chemist to join our team at RTI's headquarters in Research Triangle Park, NC. In this role, you will play a key part in advancing drug characterization, formulation, and development studies that have a real-world impact.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze samples from chemical and botanical compounds, including cannabis and tobacco products, for research purposes.
  • Operate specialized equipment, such as smoking machines, to collect smoke condensate and analyze tobacco mixtures and cigarette constituents.
  • Perform physical and chemical characterizations, quality control testing, and stability evaluations for drug substances and dosage formulations.
  • Utilize a variety of techniques, including HPLC/UV/PDA, GC/FID, UV, IR, Karl-Fischer titration, and polarimetry.
  • Collaborate with team members to plan and execute project tasks, ensuring timelines are met.
  • Document procedures and results in compliance with FDA regulations.
  • Process and interpret data, compile findings, and contribute to detailed report writing.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory instrumentation.

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • Strong background in analytical chemistry, with hands-on experience in sample preparation and advanced analytical techniques.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with FDA regulations and compliance standards for laboratory documentation.
  • Strong data analysis and report writing skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA degree in chemistry (or related discipline) with 2 or more years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Demonstrated experience with basic lab equipment (pipet, balance, pH)
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the application of chromatographic separation techniques (HPLC, GC) are essential (use of automated chromatographic data acquisition systems is preferred)
  • Ability to work in a regulated (FDA, DEA) environment and be compliant with SOPs, study plans, laboratory safety requirements, and other RTI mandated procedures
  • Mechanical troubleshooting ability a plus.
