The Senior Director of Specialty Pharmacy is a key strategic and operational leader responsible for the management, performance, and growth of Specialty Pharmacy services, prior authorization technician team, and outpatient pharmacy operations. Under the direction of the VP, Chief Pharmacy & Therapeutics Officer, the Senior Director ensures the provision of high hospital-based and outpatient pharmacy-based platforms.

The Senior Director of Specialty and Retail Pharmacy will be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing strategies to expand and enhance the specialty pharmacy program, focusing on patient outcomes, innovation, profitability, quality improvement, and alignment with institutional missions.
  • Serving as a key spokesperson and advocating for Specialty Pharmacy Services with stakeholders, including providers, administrators, and policymakers.
  • Identifying and capitalizing on growth opportunities by integrating pharmacy resources into affiliated clinics and expanding service capacity.
  • Fostering a culture of excellence and teamwork, motivating staff and promoting professional growth.
  • Providing oversight of all operational aspects of Specialty Pharmacy Services, including prescription processing, workflow, patient counseling, mail order support, and coordination with clinical pharmacists to deliver patient-centric and effective pharmaceutical care.
  • Managing and planning for future growth, operational expansion, and extension of pharmacy services beyond the specialty pharmacy services of today
  • Developing, analyzing, and overseeing the departmental budget, ensuring financial sustainability and alignment with operational and strategic goals.
  • Establishing and maintaining robust quality improvement programs, employing data-driven performance metrics to inform decision-making and process improvements.

To qualify, you must have:

  • A PharmD or BS Pharm from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy; master's or advanced degree in business/public health/healthcare administration preferred.
  • Active state of MA pharmacist license
  • Minimum of 7 years pharmacy work experience
  • Minimum of 5 years progressive management experience in ambulatory (specialty/retail) pharmacy, preferably within a health system setting. Previous pediatric hospital experience a plus
  • Experienced with prior authorization, limited distribution drug access, financial assistance programs, and state Medicaid prescription benefits programs.
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g., ACHC, URAC, state Board of Pharmacy).
  • Understanding of compliance with HRSA's 340B drug purchasing program.
  • Knowledge about state and federal laws, regulations, principles, standards, and practices related to the provision of specialty and retail prescriptions, including proficiency with dispensing requirements, drug storage and shipping requirements, and non-sterile compounding requirements.
  • Proficiency in financial management, contract negotiation, and partnership development

The Specialty Pharmacy is open 8:30AM - 5pm, M-F.
