CVT Cardiovascular Tech Preceptor / Educator opportunity in EP Lab at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Seeking a skilled imaging professional (ARRT, RCES, RCIS) with a strong background in electrophysiology. Join our dynamic team, bring your expertise, and make a meaningful impact on patient care. Sign on bonus and relocation available for qualifying candidate. Performs activities related to orientation and continuing education of the staff. Identifies orientation and education needs, collaborates with Unit Director, Clincial Nurse Specialist and/ or Education Consultant to develop a plan to meet identified needs. Assists physician with direct patient care during interventional procedures in the scrub, circulator, and/ or monitor positions. Delivers quality service through a team-oriented, collaborative approach to care for adult and geriatric patients.
- Guides, advises, and instructs new staff during their orientation period. Develops and monitors orientation progress. Assists in completion of orientation documentation. Communicates with Unit Director and Education Consultant regarding orientee progress.
- Communicates with Unit Director, Education Consultant (if appropriate) and staff regarding continuing education needs of department. Assists in the implementation of department continuing education plan.
- Assures patient, physician, and team needs are met during procedure. Serves as patient advocate, and informs physician of patient comfort level. Obtains and sets up procedural supplies and equipment. Provides direct assistance to physicians and patient to achieve optimum outcomes. Prepares patient and technically advanced equipment for advanced invasive procedures. May scrub and assist physician during procedures.
- Participates in the Annual Competency Validation process for all staff.
- Acts as a resource to the Cathor EP Lab staff and physicians. Takes an active role in orienting new employees. Functions as a role model for clinical practice
- Utilizes effective leadership principles. Manages resources, establishes priorities and modifies environment to meet physician, employee and patient care needs. Provides feedback to staff using appropriate communication and documentation. Performs tasks designated by team leader or management in a timely and effective manner. May assist in unit's operations in the absence of the unit leadership.
- Contributes to Carilion Clinic's scorecard, performance improvement activities, and mission. Actively participates in obtaining desired service line outcome.
- Monitors and interprets EKG and hemodynamics during procedures. Inputs data from patient history, labs, and current case proceedings including equipment/supplies and documentation for various databases, moderate sedation, pain management, and medication administration. Performs advanced data manipulation to obtain value areas, shunt calculation, and cardiac outputs in the Cardiac Catherization Laboratory. Performs advanced data manipulation to assist with electrophysiology studies and ablations.
What We Require:
Education: Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing (RN), with valid board licensure AND CCRN (Critical Care RN) from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, ORRCV through American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) preferred; Graduate of Allied Health Profession School (RRT, RTT) with board registry/licensure required AND Registered Cardiovascular Interventional Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES). Bachelor's degree preferred and will be required within five (5) years of hire. Experience: Previous Cardiac Cath or Electrophysiology experience required, critical care experience preferred.
Licensure/Certifications/Registration: Must have valid nursing license (RN) in the state of Virginia or Current RRT or RTR status, CCRN, RCIS or RCES and maintain current status. AHS BLS-HCP required. Required to obtain/maintain AHA BLS based on specific work unit. Must successfully complete AHA ACLS within six months of hire date and maintain current status.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Effective interpersonal, communication, and teamworking skills required. Must successfully complete orientation and competency validation for position.
