The Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for: The assessment and management of patients at all acuity levels with medical and/or surgical complaints. Working in collaboration with board certified pediatric emergency medicine (PEM) physicians, PEM fellows, emergency medicine and pediatrics residents, and medical students. Performing detailed histories and physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies, and developing and executing a wide range of care plans using sound clinical reasoning and critical thinking. Engaging in consultations with subspecialty services to aid in patient care. Performing emergency medicine procedures (including laceration repairs, incision and drainage, lumbar punctures, joint relocations, splinting, arthrocentesis, removal of nasal/ear foreign bodies, local nerve anesthesia and blocks). Developing discharge care plans with patients and families including prescribing medications and confirming primary care or specialty care follow-up. Working to promote and encourage optimal and realistic patient goals. Communicating with patient and family in a respectful manner leading to compassionate and empathetic care. Instructing and counseling patients regarding physical and mental health issues. Assisting in the education of medical students rotating in the department. 34.5 hours per week, shifts are Monday through Sunday and include days/evenings/overnights/weekends/holidays.
