QUALITY ASSURANCE SPECIALIST (CMM PROGRAMMER) - SENIOR QUALITY INSPECTOR

Based out of Rocket Lab's Headquarters in Long Beach, CA the Quality Assurance Specialist (CMM Programmer) - Senior Quality Inspector is responsible for supporting the Neutron program. You will play a key role in preventing defective hardware from advancing through the manufacturing process and supporting root cause analysis to eliminate failure modes. You will support the Quality Manager and Production teams, providing deliverables for leadership, the board of directors, and investors.

WHAT YOU'LL GET TO DO:



  • Implement and uphold stringent quality assurance processes and procedures to drive continuous improvement and maintain compliance with aerospace quality standards (e.g., AS9100, ISO9001).
  • Conduct precise inspections at all stages: receiving, in-process, and final assembly. Utilize hand measurement systems, optical comparators, microscopes, Romer arms, and laser trackers effectively.
  • Generate detailed inspection reports and maintain accurate records of measurement results.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior quality assurance personnel and CMM operators.
  • Participate in internal and external audits as needed to demonstrate compliance with established quality standards.
  • Stay updated with industry advancements, new technologies, and best practices in CMM programming and quality assurance.
  • Perform intricate mechanical inspections for spacecraft assemblies and various purchased parts, including 3D-printed components, large structures, CNC-machined items, electro-mechanical components, and solar panels.
  • Program and operate CMM using both PC-DMIS and Calypso software to perform accurate and efficient inspections.
  • Document non-conformances thoroughly in accordance with Rocket Lab's systems and procedures within our ERP, MES, and Issue tracking system.
  • Collaborate with engineering and management teams to refine work instructions and pinpoint critical inspection points in the production process.
  • Promote and embody a Built in Quality philosophy by consistently detecting non-conformances (Don't accept a Defect - Don't Pass a Defect) and preventing defects from reaching downstream customers.


YOU'LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS:



  • 5+ years of work experience and a bachelor's degree OR equivalent years of experience (9+ years total of work experience) in a quality manufacturing environment
  • Proven experience in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience in programming and operating CMM using either PC-DMIS or Calypso
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and maintain Hexagon and Zeiss CMM machines.
  • Strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience in using and maintaining measurement tools and equipment.


THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE:



  • Extensive experience with hand measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, feeler gauges, pin gauges, thread gauges, surface roughness measurement tools, and microscopes.
  • Some exposure to CMM using Calypso or PC-DMIS software.
  • Experience with measurement instruments like comparators.
  • Inspection experience with aerospace components and assemblies.
  • Familiarity with working in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Availability to work the 1st shift: 5:00 am - 3:30 pm, Monday - Thursday (4 days X 10 hours).
  • Must be able to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate computer keyboard and controls, and communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Must be physically able to commute to buildings
  • Occasional exposure to dust, fumes and moderate levels of noise.

Level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
