Description

The Physician Assistant will work with Physicians and Nurses in the practice to provide medical treatment plans for Cardiothoracic patients in the hospital and impatient setting; will collaborate with nurse managers, clinical nurses, discharge team, and medical staff to plan, implement and evaluate pertinent change in practice and health care delivery; will facilitate patient movement through the system and efficient use of resources through interdepartmental collaboration; will write orders which are in accord with current guidelines. This position will include variable shifts including on-call Nights, Holidays and Weekend shifts on rotating basis. This position is mainly for a candidate working full time in operating room assisting with Cardiac Surgery. The candidate will assist in CABG and perform endoscopic vein harvesting, valve surgery including minimally invasive, TAVRs, thoracic, esophageal surgery and assist in any other cardiac procedures. Additionally, provide post-operative care and preoperative assessments. Candidate should have minimum 2 years of experience as an OR Physician Assistant. Cardiothoracic surgery experience preferred but will consider candidates with non-CT surgery OR experience.

Job Duties & Essential Functions:



  • Take patient history, perform a physical examination and make an assessment and diagnosis based on this information, as well as, initiate, review and revise treatment plans and record and present data in a manner meaningful to the supervising physician.
  • Provide patient care services to the medical practice as well as Critical care if needed.
  • Assist physician with interventional treatments, respond to incoming phone messages from patient and make call backs to patient reporting response to attending physician.
  • Make referrals to other healthcare providers and/or consult the physician for further definitive therapy.
  • Performs Physical examinations; identifies health problems based on findings.
  • Orders and evaluates appropriate non-invasive diagnostic tests and procedures.
  • Instructs and counsels patients on health care, health maintenance, medical problems, treatment plans, nutrition or other related issues as appropriate.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by management.


Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • NYS license.
  • NCCPA certification as a Physician Assistant.
  • Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) from an accredited school of Physician Assistants.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Experience working in a fast-paced medical practice.
  • Experience with EMR.
  • Excellent communication skills.
