The expected hiring range for this position is

$67,600.00-$96,133.00.

About the Role:

The Fermilab Particle Physics Directorate (PPD) is seeking an Engineering Physicist for a 1-year term to work with the Muon Department.The focus of this position will be construction, commissioning, and maintenance of the Mu2e Straw Tube Tracker. The successful candidate will work with teams of engineers, technicians and scientists.

What your day-to-day as an Engineering Physicist at Fermilab will look like:

  • Complete construction of the Mu2e straw tube tracker
  • Develop techniques to perform quality control for straw tube trackers
  • Develop methods to commission straw tube trackers
  • Develop procedures for near-term and long-term maintenance of the tracker
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Abides by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.

Skills and Attributes for Success:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in a technical discipline (e.g. Physics, Engineering)
  • 0-3 years' experience
  • Candidates with less than 3 years of work experience should demonstrate some experience from co-op, internship, or undergraduate research involvement.
  • Demonstrated experience with building and commissioning straw tube trackers
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting ability
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively as a member of a team in research and operational environments, often with tight schedule constraints
  • Ability to contribute effectively within a diverse workforce and upholds Fermilab's commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

  • Onsite: This is an onsite role, and the candidate must be able to work from our Batavia office.
