Job Description

Brightspeed is searching for a Senior Engineer (Inside Plant) to join our team! As Senior Engineer (Inside Plant), your primary role will be building our robust core network supporting our ethernet products, 1gig fiber services, Fiber-to-the-Tower (FT3), voice conversion, transport backhaul and more. You will develop detailed engineering designs including materials, implementation plans and costing estimates to support and install the new equipment working closely with the high-level plans and outlines prepared by Brightspeed Planning. You will utilize mechanized tools including: IQGeo, AutoCAD, WFMT, WMS, ARMOR, Service Now, TIRKS, and the full suite of Microsoft Office. In this role you will survey, design, and implement ISP plans inclusive of ethernet, transport, power and inter-office fiber technologies. In addition, you will interact with internal customers, vendors, suppliers and maintain open conversation with planning and all company departments to provide a high-quality platform for reliable and high-speed experience for our Brightspeed customers.

As Senior Engineer (Inside Plant), your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing/defining plans for the implementation of new ISP installation or modifications to existing facilities
  • Preparing plans and specifications, to include gathering field datacollected through field survey visits sometimes with vendor/contractors
  • Assuring and communicating that the most feasible, practical, and economical means to complete the work are utilized
  • Providing cost data to support capital planning and budgeting
  • Monitoring and controlling project expenditure
  • Overseeing the installation/construction and testing of plant facilities, meeting the required commitment dates
  • Design circuits that interconnect the new platform with the legacy environment; Transport, Metro/Core Ethernet devices, Access Devices, etc.
  • Participation in resolving test and turn-up; as well as, interoperability problems to obtain acceptance of new equipment adds/augments to the network
  • Transport channel mapping, circuit design planning and provisioning of transport/ethernet circuits
  • Supporting acquisition and implementation of hardware and software as well as attaining subcontractor services as needed
Qualifications

WHAT IT TAKES TO CATCH OUR EYE:

  • Associate degree or equivalent education and relevant experience
  • 5 to 8 years plus related experience in telecommunications, engineering, network planning or equivalent
  • Knowledgeable and skilled in planning /engineeringandreading technical construction drawings/documents
  • Experience with cross-functional teaming, working in fast-paced environments, adapting to system developments/changes and responding positively to continuous change
  • Understanding of transport and router equipment/technologies and protocols, along with layer 2 and layer 3 ethernet and transport networking
  • Product knowledge of Cisco and Nokia routers, Ciena and Fujitsu transport devices, Calix and Adtran access devices, localized power such as fuse panels and BDFB power bays, fiber management and fiber optic modules
  • Knowledgeable and some experience in systems/tools such as SAP, IQGeo, WMS, Service Now, Armor, One Control for Ciena 6500, Netsmart 1500 for Fujitsu, TNMS for Infinera, Smartsheet and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work with Planning, Operations, Equipment Vendors, Contract resources and all internal customers while maintaining budgets and assisting with forecasting budgetsto proper implementation of project plans
  • Strong project management skills for accurate tracking and progress reporting on projects
  • Willingness to work above and beyond to meet business needs as required when necessary
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Comfortable contributing in team environments
