About the Laboratory

The Sgourakis Lab at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is currently recruiting candidates for a post-doctoral research position.

Our research programs focus on mechanism-based studies of i) molecular chaperones involved in the folding, processing and peptide editing of MHC-I and MHC-II molecules and ii) T cell antigen receptor signaling complexes involved in cancer immunotherapy. Our lab's principal efforts focus on mechanistic, structural and functional studies of protein complexes, with emphasis on the development of an iterative experimental / computational approach. To gain an atomic-detail description of these processes and to characterize novel therapeutic targets, we integrate cutting-edge structural biology methods from Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy, complementary biophysical and biochemical techniques, computational structure modeling with functional immunoassays. The group has regular access to a dedicated 600 MHz Bruker Neo NMR spectrometer, high-field instruments at local facilities, and outstanding X-ray crystallography and cryoEM facilities located at the UPenn campus. Our efforts are done in close collaboration with several groups within the vibrant structural biology, immunology and immuno-oncology communities at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania.

  • Candidates should have a PhD in either a structural biology-related field, or in molecular immunology with a strong background in protein biochemistry. Excellent lab organization and team-oriented working skills are necessary for the position.
  • Successful candidates must be committed to working with diverse student populations. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
  • The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is responsive to the needs of dual career couples.
