Retirement & Benefits Strategy Manager

The Vice President, Retirement & Benefits Strategy Manager is responsible for managing Comerica's retirement plans and wellbeing programs, and setting strategy for future benefit design. This includes researching, analyzing, working with vendors and evaluating practices and administration to ensure the programs adhere to plan terms and regulatory requirements. Acts as a liaison across the benefits group for compliance and communications activities.

Position Responsibilities:



  • Oversee all retirement plans and wellbeing programs. This includes vendor management, appropriate delegation and review of administrative tasks, resolving complex escalations, educating/assisting managers, employees, retirees, and beneficiaries regarding retirement plan policies, procedures, benefit provisions, and legal requirements.
  • Lead the projects and initiatives of the Retirement Working Group of the Investment Subcommittee, including managing retirement plan advisors. Support the Benefits Director in coordinating and preparing for Benefits Committee and Investment Subcommittee.
  • Regularly review benchmarking to ensure Comerica's retirement and benefit programs remain competitive. Perform cost analysis and data analytics to support and recommend plan design changes for benefit programs.
  • Oversee compliance and communications for retirement and wellbeing programs including maintaining tools, calendars, and procedure documentation for recurring items. Act as the liaison to internal and external auditors to answer questions and ensure each SME on the team is providing information timely.
  • Manage all RFPs and contract changes regarding retirement and wellbeing programs while ensuring annual reviews are completed in collaboration with procurement.
  • Other duties as assigned, e.g., HR budget reconciliations.


Position Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in Finance, Accounting, Business or similar
  • 6 years of experience working with retirement and benefit plans, including experience with defined benefit plans
  • 5 years of legislative experience (i.e., ERISA, DOL)
  • 3 years of experience managing multiple projects and/or working with outside vendors to manage projects
  • 3 years of benchmarking, data analytics and/or strategy experience


Work Best Category: Category C - Days in the office will either be designated days or will vary week to week from 2-5 days Hours: 8:00am - 5:00pm Monday - Friday. This position offers a hybrid work model that includes onsite and remote days as determined by the manager. Salary: To Be Determined Based on Individual Experience
