Posting Summary
The Rutgers Institute of Translational Medicine and Science at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School is seeking a Post Doctoral Associate position in Dr. Tricia Burdo's laboratory. The primary research interest in the laboratory is to understand the mechanisms of chronic immune activation in HIV-associated cardiovascular disease and viral persistence in the central nervous system. The Post Doctoral Associate will perform a high level of research work in an active research laboratory setting with state-of-the-art facilities to study human immunodeficiency virus ( HIV) pathogenesis and HIV cure research.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Designs and leads the project as directed by the supervisor.
  • Preparation of high-quality manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, as well as data for research conference presentations and grant applications.
  • Presents findings at national meetings.
  • Maintains accurate records of laboratory notebooks and research activity. Reviews literature and prepares manuscripts and abstracts for submission.
  • Participates in the evaluation of the existing procedures, suggesting revisions where necessary and proposing new procedures where required. Contributes to the development of performance standards, selection of methodology and instrumentation and coordination of the analytical, biochemical, physiology and instrumentation functions with the research areas to ensure conformance with the goals and objectives. As required, assists in the implementation of the programs and projects in special areas of interest to the lab.
  • Provide supervision and guidance to junior staff, undergraduates, and graduate students.
  • Understands and adheres to Rutgers' compliance standards as they appear in RBHS's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Qualified candidates will have a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences or related disciplines with a strong publication record and strong commitment to research.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Clear evidence of scientific productivity
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment
  • Position is contingent upon funding.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference for self-motivated, detail-oriented candidates with prior experience in histology, PCRs, flow cytometry, and cell culture.
  • Additional expertise in molecular biology, biochemistry, and working with HIV is highly desirable.

Equipment Utilized
  • Tissue culture hoods and incubators, centrifuges, electrophoresis apparatus for proteins and nucleic acids, electroporator, flow cytometry, thermal cyclers, light, confocal and fluorescent microscopes, histopathology processor, embedding center, microtome and cryostat, ELISA plate washer, ELISA plate reader, ddPCR, qPCR, and other equipment as needed.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Standing, sitting, walking, speaking and hearing. Must be able to work at a computer for an extended period and must be able to operate specialized laboratory/scientific equipment. No special vision requirements. Ability to lift or exert force up to 25-50 pounds.
  • Biosafety Level 2 and 2+ laboratory environment working with human and animal fluids and tissue. Requires laboratory safety training. Will be required to work with caustic and toxic chemicals and handle controlled substances such as pharmaceutical, radiological or hazardous materials. Ability to work weekends, if needed.
