The Associate Employee Leave of Absence Benefits Specialist is responsible for administering routine leave of absence cases and providing general support for the day-to-day leave of absence process. This role provides excellent support to employees and their managers, as well as human resources business partners, Symetra's payroll team, and carrier/vendors for routine leave of absence cases. The Associate Employee Leave of Absence Benefits Specialist is responsible for demonstrating Symetra's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion while ensuring employees are supported throughout their leaves. Assists with other projects and initiatives, as assigned. Impact: Frequently works with a variety of internal customers providing standard information. May contact external/internal customers/clients and answer questions. Responsibilities: * Provide case support to the Leave of Absence Team on more complex cases (i.e gathering initial leave case data, providing employee with required paperwork, determining leave eligibility, designating leave as FMLA-qualifying and requesting medical certification as needed. Maintains and updates working knowledge of all applicable leave laws including the FMLA, and state and federal laws and regulations (60%) * Administers routine leave of absence cases (from the employee's initial notice of the need for leave through the return-to-work date). Ensures compliance with federal and state statues, throughout the country, including FMLA, state paid leave programs, and Symetra benefits programs. Proactively communicates with employees and managers to set expectations, assess employee requests with a sense of urgency/positive action and keep the employee and manager fully aware of the statues of the leave claim. Partners closely on leave cases with the Employee Benefits Leave of Absence Team and human resources business partners. Facilitates return to work options to minimize employee time off and sustained employee engagement. Maintains complete and accurate records of leave requests in accordance with specified legal requirements and documentation of best practices. Administration will include tracking, calculating pay, and working closely with Payroll to ensure that timecards are accurate and correct. (35%) * Assists with other projects and initiatives, as assigned. (5%) Job Complexity: Provides core level support. Identifies problems and all relevant issues in a variety of situations, assesses each using standard procedures and makes sound decisions, researching information to resolve problems or issues. Responds to inquiries and may provide basic interpretation of policies and procedures. Reporting Structure: Completes tasks as assigned and directed by supervisor. Works within clearly defined procedures under direct supervision. No supervisory responsibilities. *Additional Skills & Qualifications* Required Qualifications: * Basic experience with leave of absence administration experience. A basic understanding of FMLA, STD, LTD, federal and state leave laws, leave management processes, as well as the ability to apply them in practice. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism. Must be proactive, results-oriented and attentive to detail, with an eye for efficiency and the focus to constantly be looking for ways to improve, streamline, and simplify processes. A positive orientation towards solving tough challenges, while prioritizing and managing multiple responsibilities. A strong customer satisfaction focus. Self-motivated. Preferred Qualifications: * Proficiency with Microsoft Office, and ADP vantage leave module (or other leave administration technology) experience preferred. #prioritywest *Pay and Benefits* The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00 Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
