As Health Information Manager, you will be responsible for planning and directing all HIM workflows, including Data Integrity, Release of Information, Records Management and Administration. In this role, you will provide leadership and direction to a team of HIM specialists. To be successful in this role you will need to collaboratively lead a team of specialists to ensure the secure and timely release of Protected Health Information (PHI) data. Candidates for this position must be highly engaged, organized, self-motivated, creative, driven to achieve excellence, and poses strong leadership skills.

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm

Responsibilities:



  • Oversee the daily operations of the Health Information Management (HIM) Department under the supervision of the HIM director
  • Provide management support to the team comprised of Data Integrity and ROI specialists, Records Management specialists and Admin
  • Work closely with HIM leadership, privacy, and legal departments to ensure the team stays current with changes to the Federal Privacy Act, HIPAA laws and any state or local laws.
  • Ensure the department and organization is following all applicable federal, state, and local laws as it relates to the release of information.
  • Work with HIM management to evaluate staff performance, productivity, and quality measures, ensuring that they meet the departmental standards
  • In coordination with HIM leadership, train, provide feedback, evaluate, and provide corrective action to staff as needed
  • Review unique medical records requests with the privacy and legal departments ensuring all requests are completed with a high-level of accuracy and compliance
  • Perform root causes analysis on data discrepancies, working with HIM management to rectify identified issues
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality, adhering to HIPAA guidelines and applicable laws as it relates to the release of PHI data
  • Ensure the highest-level standard of customer service is provided across the HIM team
  • Identify, resolve, and escalate issues appropriately, while informing HIM leadership of all compliancy and PHI integrity issues, customer complaints, and incidents in a timely manner
  • Manage and monitor all Release of Information and Identity work queues and reports
  • Communicate HIM operation and activities to the HIM Director and other organization leaders; keeping them updated on pertinent information
  • Provide best in class level of customer service when interacting with patients, providers, and third-party requestors
  • Work closely with HIM leadership to execute priority initiatives in a timely and effective manner
  • Assist with special projects and other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
  • 3+ years of experience working in the HIM department or related work experience in a healthcare setting
  • 3+ years of experience in a Managerial/Supervisory capacity
  • 1+ years of experience working with Electronic Health Record and Release of Information tracking systems
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 Suite of applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, etc.)


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Bachelors or Associate Degree in Health Information Management or a related field
  • Professional Certifications / Registration: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
  • Experience with EPIC HIM Workflows (Identity Manager, Release of Information, Interface Error resolution, etc.)
  • Epic HIM experience


Soft Skills:



  • Strong analytical, problem solving, written, and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks
  • Detail oriented, critical thinker and quality focused
  • Must be able to work independently and communicate with all levels of the organization
  • Relevant management experience



The salary range for this role is $59,500 to $116,600 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
