JOB TITLE:

Assistant Professor - Criminal Justice

JOB PURPOSE:

The Department of Criminal Justice and Sociology invites applications for one (1) tenure track position in Criminal Justice starting Fall Semester, 2025. This position will be hired at the Assistant Professor rank. The area of research specialty is open, but we are interested in adding a scholar with a focus on applied research in the criminal justice field, whose expertise expands the breadth of our Department and/or builds on existing areas of strength. Some areas of interest include, but are not limited to the intersection of criminal justice and emerging technologies, problem-solving courts, and issues of health and well-being in the criminal justice system.

The successful candidate should have the capacity to contribute to teaching in key areas of need with a particular focus on criminal justice systems, such as courts, policing, and corrections. The University of Wyoming's teaching load is 5 courses per academic year with course reductions possible.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Teach 5 courses over the academic year
  • Maintain active scholarly research and professional development
  • Advise and mentor students
  • Provide service to the department, college, and university

COMPETENCIES:

Assistant Professor rank with the capacity to contribute to teaching in key areas of need with a particular focus on criminal justice systems, such as courts, policing, and corrections.

WORK LOCATION: This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or related field at the time of appointment. A Juris Doctorate degree alone does not fulfill the employment requirements.
  • Demonstrated record of - or potential for - peer-reviewed publications.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience in Criminal Justice at the college and/or university level. (Experience as a teaching assistant at the college or university level meets this qualification).

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to teach in areas of need within our curriculum related to criminal justice systems to include Criminal Courts and Process, Issues in Policing, Correctional Theory and Practice, and Ethics.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain an active research agenda leading to peer reviewed publications.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college and/or university level.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute effectively to the delivery of our undergraduate program with traditional classroom instruction and online education.
  • Potential for grant activity

    • Ability to develop and maintain an active research agenda that will lead to peer reviewed publications and potential for grant activity,
    • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college and/or university level,
    • Demonstrated ability to contribute effectively to the delivery of the Criminal Justice undergraduate program (traditional classroom instruction as well as online education),
  3. Summary of teaching evaluations, and evaluations from the two most recent courses (if available)
