Surgical Technologist III

Under supervision, assists in operations. May help set up operating room, prepare and transport patients for surgery, adjust lights and equipment, pass instruments and other supplies to surgeons and surgeon's assistants, hold retractors, cut sutures, and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments. May provide day to day guidance/direction to more junior staff.
Essential Functions
-Participates in time out procedures
-Attainment of extra supplies and equipment as needed.
-Sets up equipment independently
-Participates as an active member of the Patient Care Team.
-Monitor and continually assess operating room conditions, including patient and surgical team needs.
-Prepare patients for surgery, including positioning patients on the operating table and covering them with sterile surgical drapes to prevent exposure.
-Knowledge of SPD Sterile Room.

Education

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Licenses and Credentials

  • Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - preferred

  • Current Surgical Technologist Certification (CST) is required within one year from the date of graduation from a surgical technologist program or have been employed as a surgical technologist in a surgical facility on or before July 1st, 2013 or have successfully completed a training program for surgical technology in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard of the United States or in the United States Public Health Service (MA Senate Bill 2058, December 2012). Graduates who have not obtained their certification will have one year from the date of graduation from a surgical technologist program to obtain their certification.

Experience

  • 3-5 years of Surgical Tech experience is required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of SPD Sterile Room.

  • Ability to multitask, can work in a fast-paced clinical environment.

  • Advanced knowledge of sterile processing procedures and policies.

  • Familiarity with medical terminology and departmental supply items is required.
