The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations, which encompasses an expansive range of comprehensive service and business operations across the State of New Jersey. These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations. |
Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Operations Area Manager for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). The position directs, administers and coordinates environmental services to maintain the facilities environment in a safe, sanitary, attractive and orderly condition.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Plans and schedules the work of the department to maintain maximum effective utilization of employees, equipment and material within budgetary requirements.
- Approves and/or disapproves recommended personnel changes.
- Establishes work schedules, work assignments and assigns hours to ensure adequate service to all areas of responsibility.
- Maintains up-to-date written policies and cleaning procedures.
- Ensures departmental personnel are trained and educated in Rutgers University policies and procedures.
- Inspects and evaluates the physical condition of the campus. Recommends painting, repairs, refurbishing, relocation of equipment and reallocation of space where appropriate to improve sanitation, appearance and efficiency. Reports any unsafe conditions to proper authorities.
- Responsible for snow removal and grounds maintenance, excluding landscaping.
- Maintains quality standards.
- Initiates and maintains good interdepartmental relationships with department heads, deans and medical staff.
- Conducts research to improve housekeeping technology. Investigates and evaluates housekeeping supplies and equipment.
- Serves on and attends meetings of the Infection Control and Safety Committees.
- Controls supply budget expenses.
- Directly responsible for the coordination and scheduling of environmental inspection rounds with University administration.
- Prepares budgets, work reports, and carries out fiscal planning and other administrative duties.
- Responsible for maintaining adequate and accurate records for the department.
- Assures compliance with regulatory codes and requirements for environmental services' standards, where appropriate, such as those of the State Health Department and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JC).
- Ensures that the staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their jobs.
- Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Rutgers' regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
- Understands and adheres to Rutgers' compliance standards as they appear in RBHS's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's Degree plus at least two (2) years of experience as an Assistant Executive Housekeeper or five (5) years as a Supervisor in Housekeeping.
- Equivalent experience, education and/or training may be substituted for a bachelor's degree however, a non-expired Certification by the International Executive Housekeeping Association or the American Society for Healthcare Environmental Services (ASHES/AHA) is required.
