Joining our Origination team at Deriva Energy as an Associate Director of Origination is an exciting, dynamic, and diverse job that will have significant impact starting day 1. You will take control of current origination functions connected to Renewable Energy Framework Agreements (REFA)'s for large scale commercial customers including Microsoft (MSFT). We expect you to learn, grow, and find ways to positively impact the organization. As an Associate Director in Origination, you will work with the internal Origination team and various subject matter experts (SMEs) across Deriva Energy and Brookfield Renewable US (BRUS). Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Origination, the successful candidate will be primarily responsible for leading the commercial power origination efforts for MSFT across multiple renewable technologies. The position plays a key role in building and maintaining relationships in power markets across the US. The candidate will lead the efforts to meet the MSFT commitments by working with the BRUS team on a daily basis. This role will have a unique opportunity to develop and execute offtake strategies across multiple renewable technologies and geographies and with this position we are seeking a driven and creative leader to help build an industry-leading Origination function. As a leader in the organization, the candidate will help lead our commitment to delivering value to Deriva Energy, BRUS, and MSFT.

Responsibilities:

  • Delivering revenue and margin goals for off-take agreements with large corporate buys, initially MSFT.

  • Manage the daily requirements and communications with BRUS pertaining to MSFT

  • Create and present MSFT projects to internal executive team in preparation for the Deriva Energy Board of Directors.

  • Negotiation of power contracts with counterparties in collaboration with stakeholders from functions across the organization (Business Development, Finance, Operations)

  • Develop and execute creative deal structures across a range of product offerings and RTO's.

  • Drive power marketing "ideas" to definitive deliverables and timetables for execution

  • Provide deal structure recommendations to minimize collateral requirements and support negotiation of financing arrangements in the MSFT REFA.

Basic/Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree AND six (6) years or more of related work experience

  • In lieu of bachelor's degree, high school diploma/GED AND 11 years or more years of related work experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • MBA or other Master's Degree is a plus.

  • 5+ years of power experience with 2+ years in middle marketing or origination work in the power sector;

  • Act as a collaborative, collegial and engaged team member

  • Renewables-specific experience is strongly preferred.

  • Possess a passion for delivering innovative solutions to the challenge of moving the world to a clean energy future;

  • Demonstrate an understanding of contractual concepts including basis risk, power markets, hedging, losses, and congestion

  • Ability to build strong customer relationships across organization levels

  • Capable leader who can effectively manage others to high performance

  • Current knowledge of renewable energy markets (ISOs/RTOs and WECC) and key drivers (e.g., policies, technologies, dynamics in local markets), especially for wind, solar, and storage.

  • Previous experience supporting successful client negotiations, including contractual analysis; previous deal leadership is a plus.

Working Conditions:

This role is intended to be located at the Deriva Headquarters office in Charlotte, NC. Strategic locations in certain regions may also be considered for more experienced candidates. The office position is hybrid.
