Job Description:

Deriva Energy, a portfolio company of Brookfield Renewable U.S., who is a nationwide leader in sustainable energy provides wind, solar, resilient backup power, and managed energy services across the U.S., with a total electric capacity of more than 6,000 megawatts of nonregulated renewable energy is seeking a Senior Renewable Control Center Dispatch Operator to be based in Charlotte, N.C.

The Senior Renewable Control Center (RCC) Dispatch Operator is responsible for the monitoring of Deriva Energy's wind, solar, and battery assets. This includes maintaining daily logs of any site events and issuing authorizations to technicians performing work on site. The Senior RCC Dispatch Operator will call out technicians for faulted equipment and perform remote resets to maintain site availability. The RCC Senior Operator will maintain effective communication with any associated off-taker, transmission operator, or balancing authority; this includes any equipment trips, de-rates, loss of communication events, outages, and operating instructions. Other duties include submitting nominations for sites, scheduling and coordinating site outages, etc. The Senior RCC Dispatch Operator aids the RCC Supervisor and serves as the backup in supervisor's absence.

Responsibilities:

Operational Planning

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to make quick and accurate decisions and work under pressure.

  • Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to build rapport with market entities and internal customers.

  • Trained working knowledge of Qualified Scheduling Entity (QSE) obligations in their applicable markets (ERCOT, PJM, SPP, MISO, CAISO etc.).

  • Maintain detailed knowledge of generating unit operating characteristics to effectively utilize units to fullest potential.

  • Knowledge of plant operations, power system operations, power trading, and risk management control.

Communication and Teambuilding

  • Engage teammates in process of real-time operations and assure reporting proficiency.

  • Assist teammates in the growth and development of skills and abilities which will enhance both their present job skills and their future value to the company.

  • Adopt a leadership role in developing needed tools and best practices for renewable operators.

Compliance Assurance

  • Communicates all critical and emergency notifications to applicable external and internal parties within designated time limits.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School/GED.

  • 3 years of equivalent experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or relevant field.

  • Demonstrated commitment to personal development and improvement.

  • Advanced skills training or operator experience specifically in Renewables.

  • Leadership skills that align with the Renewable Energy Business needs of the future.

  • Knowledge of telemetry data communications, remote database applications, application programming techniques, and control systems.

  • Advanced computer skills - Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Pl Application Suite

  • Experience with SCADA, EMS Control Systems, and various OEM Wind SCADA's (GE, Vestas, Suzlon, Nordex)

  • Experience with Power Marketing tools (Market Portals, Power Optix, Genscape)

  • Minimum level of power plant knowledge

Working Conditions:

  • 24/7 shift work in office environment, 12 hour rotating shift.

  • Must have approved DOA on file with Risk Management

  • Must obtain PJM Generator Dispatcher Certification within 6 months of hire date and maintain ongoing CEH and Simulator training hours
