Job Description:

Overview:

The Senior Paralegal, Development will provide legal support for the Company, with a special focus on its renewables project development activities. In this position, the Senior Paralegal, Development will work together with the Company's in-house counsel to provide legal support to the Company's development, land use, procurement and technical services teams, and its regulatory specialists on various commercial issues relevant to the Company's development business, including real estate procurement, equipment supply and construction, permitting, and other matters related to project development. This is a remote position and will report to an in-house counsel also focused on development activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and/or reviews legal documents such as resolutions, agreements, deeds, leases, easements, land options, claim documents, and other contracts; reviews and edits prepared documents for accuracy and completeness.

  • Will work closely with Company's land use team to assist in land procurement and compliance with the Company's land contracts.

  • Investigates facts for development projects from existing files and through inquiries of various departments; organizes and coordinates information that has been gathered; drafts summaries.

  • Assists in-house counsel in managing the work of outside counsel by tracking and following up on issues related to work flow and costs.

  • Develops and maintains filing systems and data bases of corporate, business and legal documents and company information.

  • Initiates and completes assigned projects.

  • Assists attorneys with other related assignments.

Required/Basic Qualifications:

  • High School / GED

  • Law Clerk/Paralegal Diploma or equivalent education; and

  • 5+ years of experience working as a real estate paralegal in a fast-paced and dynamic law firm or in-house environment.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working on land and project development matters; working through title searches and procuring title insurance policies; reviewing and drafting deeds, leases, land options and easements; and recording land related instruments.

  • Ability to review and procure ALTA surveys

  • Familiarity with other project development matters, such as local permitting processes, and equipment supply and construction contracts a plus.

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of computer applications such as Lotus Notes, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Demonstrated effective written and oral communications skills and the ability to appropriately handle highly confidential and propriety information.

  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and flexibility in handling multiple tasks, often under time constraints.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, organize and coordinate work while showing initiative and sound judgment.

  • Demonstrated problem solving, decision making and analytical skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Working Conditions:

  • This position is located Charlotte, NC

  • This is an onsite position; employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to the designated office location
