Details

The University of IowaHealth Care department of Neurology is seeking an hourly Non-UI Student Technicianto perform nerve conduction studies in the Electromyography (EMG) laboratory. Other responsibilities will include escorting patients, taking patient histories, presenting study results to physicians, and cleaning and resetting examination rooms. Hands-on training will be provided.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities



  • Escort patients to and from examination rooms
  • Take patient histories
  • Perform nerve conduction studies using electroneurodiagnostic equipment
  • Present study results to physicians for review
  • Reset examination rooms between patients
  • Maintain quality control of equipment: recognizing malfunction and troubleshooting/alerting appropriate personnel
  • Provide information to patients regarding reason for referral
  • Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public
  • Demonstrate respect for all members of the University community while performing one's duties and in response to administrators, supervisors, coworkers, and customers



Supervision Received:General supervision is received from the EMG Laboratory Clinical/Technical Specialist or other designated official.

Schedule: Work will be performed between the hours of 7:30am-5:30pm, Monday-Friday. Schedule is flexible and determined with supervisor upon hire. Maximum 20 hours per week during the academic semesters; 40 hours per week during breaks.

Pay: $15/hour

Required Qualifications



  • Current participationin a 24-month END Technology program or other applicable program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, faculty, patients, and/or the public


Desired Qualifications



  • Healthcare experience
  • Customer service experience
  • Experience in Nerve Conduction Study Technology or EEG.
  • Knowledge of University policies, procedures, and regulations



Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any conviction history and will be subject to a criminal background check and credential/education verification. Up to 5 professional references will be requested at a later step in the recruitment process.
