*TekSystems is currently hiring for a Medical Coder in the Baltimore area! *
* *MUST HAVE: 1-2+ years related experience in a Medical Coding role* * *Must have outpatient coding experience* * *Auditing experience preferred* * *Must have CPC, COC, CCS certifications* * *Open to CPC-A, but CPC etc preferred* *Description* CODES - Reviews medical records to determine the physician's diagnosis/procedures for the patient and assigns ICD-10CM/PCS codes to those diagnoses/procedures for outpatient coding. Tasks: * Reviews the entire medical record for codeable information. * Writes queries as appropriate and adheres to the query policy. Follows-up on queries and updates coding and the query as appropriate and in a timely manner. * Assigns the appropriate APR/DRG. * Is familiar with and follows the Coding Compliance plan. ABSTRACTS - Abstracts predetermined information from outpatient records and enters that information on to the medical record abstract. * Enters appropriate information on the abstract as determined by departmental policy. * Completes and releases to billing abstracts that are ready to be billed. * Notifies the Manager and/or Coordinator of charts with missing documents. Notifies admitting of registration errors. * Works with Clinical Documentation Specialists to develop a good working team. * Communicates about queries and query responses. Uses CDI as a resource for clinical information. * Ensures that emails, audits, queries and reports are processed timely. RESEARCHES - Researches to ensure that records are coded, grouped and abstracted properly. Tasks: * Contacts other departments to obtain information needed for coding such as diagnoses, procedures, treatments rendered, etc. * Contacts physicians to obtain information (diagnoses, procedures, treatments, clarifications) needed for coding. * Utilizes references (dictionaries, Coding Clinics, CPT assistant, Coding Policies, other literature, Clinical Documentation Specialists, Coordinator, Internal Auditor, etc) to help determine appropriate codes. *Additional Skills & Qualifications* High School Diploma or GED required. 1-2+ years related experience in a Medical Coding role Must have outpatient coding experience Auditing experience preferred Must have CPC, COC, CCS certifications Open to CPC-A, but CPC etc preferred EPIC experience a PLUS, but not a must Must be familiar with all payors and payor portals Must have STRONG Computer skills *Pay and Benefits* The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $30.00 * Medical, dental & vision * Critical Illness, Accident, and Hospital * 401(k) Retirement Plan - Pre-tax and Roth post-tax contributions available * Life Insurance (Voluntary Life & AD&D for the employee and dependents) * Short and long-term disability * Health Spending Account (HSA) * Transportation benefits * Employee Assistance Program * Time Off/Leave (PTO, Vacation or Sick Leave) *Workplace Type* This is a fully onsite position in Baltimore,MD. *Application Deadline* This position will be accepting applications until Jan 16, 2025.
