The Fong lab is seeking an experienced Research Technician I or Research Technician II to work in a collaborative environment leading research on cancer immunotherapy. The focus of our lab is to unravel the mechanisms of response and resistance to cancer immunotherapy. In addition, candidates with significant expertise in antibody-medicated cell enrichment procedures, flow cytometry, and cell cryopreservation will be viewed as highly favorable candidates.



Responsibilities

This is expected to be a long-term position and the successful applicant will help oversee the day to day running of the mouse colony in collaboration with senior graduate laboratory members. The candidate will also contribute to multiple projects studying the dynamic interactions governing the generation of anti-tumor immunity and apply this knowledge toward developing novel approaches for the study and treatment of cancer. The technician will be closely involved in research projects using in vivo murine models of transplantation, cancer patient-derived samples, and engineered cell therapy models combined with single cell, spatial, and computational approaches to study the dynamics of an immune response.

The successful applicant will ideally have a basic knowledge of immunology and colony management with previous experience in laboratory murine handling, genotyping, and cell culture, and be capable of maintaining detailed laboratory records.

In conjunction with the senior Research Technicians, key duties will include:

    Oversight and maintenance of a large murine colony
  • Scheduling and coordinating experiments with other lab members and collaborators
  • Maintenance and inventory of laboratory reagents, stocks, and media
  • Monitoring experimental animal well-being
  • Supporting complex experimentation


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Research Technician I:

  • Bachelor's degree in related scientific field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated scientific knowledge in the area of study
  • Demonstrated basic laboratory skills

Research Technician II:

  • Bachelor's degree in related scientific field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2 years of experience working in a lab outside of school coursework

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for two years of professional lab experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently provide colony management with minimal supervision.
  • Extensive hands-on mouse husbandry experience.
  • Demonstrated mouse handling skills.
  • Experience with murine models and murine colony maintenance including complex cre-flox systems.
  • Demonstrated strong organization skill and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform PCR genotyping.
  • Experience with basic injections. (e.g., IP, SC, gavage)
  • Basic understanding of animal welfare and ethics.
  • Aseptic culture technique.
  • A basic understanding of and prior exposure to flow cytometry.

Research Technician I: The hourly pay range for this position is from $22.87 to $32.56 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

Research Technician II: The hourly pay range for this position is from $26.48 to $37.70 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
