Responsibilities & Expectations:

The Relay Technician will perform installation, commissioning, testing and maintenance on electromechanical and solid-state relays in electrical power stations.

  • Maintain and repair protective relay equipment in electric power substations
  • Calibration and functional testing on electromechanical and solid-state protective relays
  • Perform relay testing using relay test software
  • Develop relay test plans necessary to test the relays per client and company specifications and standards
  • Ensure relay settings, relay logic, CT ratios and trip outputs are correct and matches schematics
  • Power transformer testing including Doble, TTR, Insulation Resistance, etc.
  • Cable testing including Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC Hipot
  • Automatic transfer switch troubleshooting
  • Low, medium and high voltage switchgear and circuit breaker testing
  • Troubleshoot electrical related issues
  • Check functioning of newly installed equipment to evaluate system performance under actual operating conditions to ensure end results meet requirements
  • Will act as lead for relay projects and will interact with customer, prioritize tasks and develop plans for each project
  • Ensure safety on job site

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Must have 2+ years' experience installing, maintaining, testing & repairing protective relays and relay test software
  • Associates degree in Electrical/Electrical technology, or Military experience a plus with hands on experience with relays
  • Some testing experience of low and medium voltage switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers; NETA certification is a plus
  • Must have a valid driver's license and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record
  • Ability to travel and work flexible hours, overtime and weekends as required, willingness to be on call
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
