Job Summary:

The School of Nursing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking a Statistician - Emphasis in Health and Social Science Methodologies to join our Research Design and Statistics Unit and support our research and scholarship mission. We seek candidates with experience engaging in collaborative research projects and providing consultation on research design and analysis, including innovative analytical approaches. The ideal candidate will be an organized, detail-oriented person with strong oral, written, and visual communication skills who enjoys working on challenging, time-sensitive tasks in a team-based setting. The person in this position should have a collaborative, consultative approach to their work and foster professional working relationships across the School of Nursing and larger research network on campus. They must understand how their position fits within the School of Nursing's larger inclusive excellence framework, which means providing a welcoming, supportive, equitable environment where all can thrive.

The successful candidate will collaborate with a vibrant group of scientists and scholars conducting innovative and impactful research and scholarship aimed at improving health care services and individual and population health across the lifespan and continuum of care. Scientists in the School of Nursing conduct biomedical, clinical, health systems, health services, population health, social, and community research centered around the following priorities:

-Aging and care of older adults
-Children, family and reproductive health
-Health equity
-Public health and health systems
-Mental health and substance abuse
-Symptom science and palliative care
-Health informatics, data science, and artificial intelligence

The Research Design and Statistics Unit within the UW-Madison School of Nursing provides expertise to support design, methods, data-collection procedures, instrument development, data management, and analysis. Customized support is available for a wide range of computational requests, storage, and backup systems. All major statistical packages are utilized (e.g., R, STATA, SAS, NCSS, and SPSS), software for structural equation modeling (e.g., LISREL, Mplus, and EQS), software for hierarchical linear modeling (e.g., MLWin), and software for longitudinal and time series modeling (e.g., GLMM and Interrupted time series models). This position will work closely with the Director of the Research Design and Statistics Unit. A Research Database Administrator also works within the unit and assists with database design, monitoring data quality/integrity, data merging, and variable extraction, overall project management and workflow analysis, and data sharing.

Responsibilities:
Provides biostatistical consulting and collaborates with physicians and scientists on biomedical, life sciences, clinical, and population health research. Provides significant intellectual contributions to the development and implementation of complex research questions and statistical methodologies.

  • 25% Evaluates, develops, analyzes, and interprets highly complex and significant hypotheses, data, sources, and statistical methods, and prepares summarized reports
  • 15% Designs and implements statistical methods, programs, and applicable resource materials used for large-scale or complex research projects
  • 20% Advises on best practices and established policies, procedures and regulation, and conducts biostatistical analysis for internal and external stakeholders groups
  • 5% Provides training in biostatistics tools and methodologies
  • 15% Authors, co-authors, or contributes to the preparation, editing, and submission of research manuscripts, presentations, reports, research grand and contract proposals, and/or post-award reports to funding agencies
  • 20% Consults and mentors on research design, quantitative methods, data visualization, and statistics

Qualifications:

Required:
-Minimum of three years of experience in research design and statistical analysis

Preferred experience includes:
-Managing and prioritizing multiple projects
-Communication of statistical concepts to other scientists and non-scientists
-Demonstrated understanding of social sciences statistical concepts and methodologies
-Experience using a range of statistical software and data management software programs
-Experience in providing consultation on research methods and statistics
-Experience in teaching and/or mentoring on research design and quantitative methods at a graduate level
-Experience disseminating results from research studies using quantitative methods


Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

This position requires most work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. The person in this position may request and be considered for a formal remote work agreement based on guidelines set forth by the School of Nursing, and/or may be provided with remote work flexibility as needed and approved by the supervisor.

Depending on Qualifications
The expected salary for this position starts at a rate of $95,000 annually. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, the employee in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays, and other paid time off, competitive insurances and savings accounts, and employer sponsored retirement benefits.
