A reasonable estimated full-time rate for this position at 100% time is $66,737 to $80,034/ year.

Position duration:
The initial appointment will be for two years with the expectation of renewal for a third year contingent upon satisfactory performance.

Position description

The Department of Physics at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for 1-2 postdoctoral researchers to join UCSB's engaging and diverse astronomy group. The successful applicant(s) will work in collaboration with Prof. Caitlin Casey on a variety of observational datasets and projects spanning JWST (especially focused on, though not limited to the COSMOS-Web Survey), ALMA gas and dust observations, and Keck spectroscopy. The themes will span massive galaxies in the Universe's first Gyr, early star formation and AGN, galaxy clustering and large scale structure, and dust and gas at high-z.

Applicants with experience in observational extragalactic astrophysics are encouraged to apply; those with expertise in optical/near-infrared (OIR) image analysis, OIR spectroscopy, sub/millimeter/radio astronomy, or SED fitting may be particularly well suited for the position(s).

The department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service as appropriate to the position.


Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Applicants must have completed all requirements for Ph.D. (or equivalent), except the dissertation, at the time of application. The Ph.D. is expected to be in the fields of Physics, Astronomy, or closely related field.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

The candidate must have received their Ph.D. in the fields of Physics, Astronomy, or closely related field by the time the appointment begins.

Preferred qualifications

It is preferred that candidates have 2-3 years of experience in observational extragalactic astrophysics (including graduate-level research) . Those with expertise in optical/near-infrared (OIR) image analysis, OIR spectroscopy, sub/millimeter/radio astronomy, or SED fitting may be particularly well suited for the position(s).
