Claremont, CA Job Posting Title: Group Fitness InstructorJob Description: PRIMARY PURPOSE/GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Group Fitness Instructor is responsible for the safe and effective instruction of group exercise classes for participants with varying fitness levels in a fitness center setting.This position ensures the safe practice of exercises of the members/guests through observation, correction, assistance and answering questions. The instructor maintains the cleanliness and orderliness of the fitness space and stays educated on the newest techniques and changes in techniques in the industry. Positions include spinning, kickboxing, yoga, aqua fitness, Zumba, HIIT, Pilates, etc. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This information is intended to be a descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position.The list of essential functions below does not identify all duties performed by any single incumbent in this position.Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: Individuals must possess knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: High school diploma is required. Associate or bachelor's degree is preferred in a related field such as exercise science, physical education, and kinesiology, or any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the job. Minimum of 0-3 years of group exercise instruction experience in a recreation, collegiate, public, or private fitness industry setting. LICENSES / CERTIFICATES: Group fitness instructor certification needed in one of the following: AFAA (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America), AFPA (American Fitness Professionals and Associates), ACE (The American Council on Exercise), ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine), NAFC (National Association for Fitness Certification) NCSM (National College of Sports Medicine), NSPA (National Strength Professionals Association) or similar certification through an accredited teaching and training organization. Minimum of one additional specialty certification for group fitness classes (Zumba, Pilates, spinning, kickboxing, etc.) Maintains certification through continuing education credits by attending workshops on a yearly basis. CPR, First Aid and AED Certifications. OTHER: HOURS & CLASSIFICATION AND STATUS: This is a temporary status, part-time, non-exempt, non-benefits eligible position. The position is anticipated to work up to 2 hours per week. Hours of work will be assigned based on the needs of the department including evenings and weekends. Hourly rate: $30.00. The hourly rate of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, andtraining. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None.
