About this unit

7 South is a 22 bed Progressive Neuroscience unit located within Butterworth Hospital. This unit specializes in the care of stroke and adult epilepsy patients. As an accredited comprehensive stroke center, we have the ability to receive and treat the most complex stroke cases. Additionally, our epilepsy program performs a range of EEG monitoring from routine up to surgical implantation. Although this is a specialized unit, there is still a lot to learn due to the variety of conditions patients can have in addition to their stroke. Teamwork on this unit is known to be exceptional. Members of 7 South team assist each other in any way they can giving this unit a very welcoming and warm atmosphere. 7 South welcomes new graduates and experienced healthcare professionals alike and gives them the chance to continue to learn and grow their skills no matter their experience.

Scope of work

Performs receptionist/secretarial duties and maintains confidential records, supplies and equipment per hospital and unit specific standards. Greets and directs guests on the unit in a manner that reflects a welcoming environment. Performs computer entry, schedules tests/procedures, processes orders, and performs other related activities per unit/hospital standard within a reasonable time frame.

The Unit Secretary is the "go to" on each unit for clerical support. Responsibilities include taking phone calls, helping with directions to all visitors or outside team members to the unit (lab, radiology, patient transport, nutrition services, environmental services), calling support when directed by clinical staff, assisting with discharge, admit, and transfer paperwork, ordering supplies, ensuring rooms are appropriately stocked, answering call lights for any non-direct patient care needs, etc.

Week 1: Monday (2:30pm-11:00pm) Thursday (6:30am-3:00pm) Friday (6:30am-3:00pm)

Week 2: Monday (6:30am-3:00pm), Tuesday (6:30am-3:00pm)

Week 3: Wednesday (2:30pm-11:00pm) Saturday (6:30am-7:00pm)

Week 4: Sunday (6:30am-7:00pm) Friday (6:30am-3:00pm)

Qualifications

  • Required High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years of relevant related experience preferred
