Job Description
The purpose of this position is to provide quality technical support for productions and to assist with support for meetings and events. This is accomplished by hands-on set construction; event set up/load out; rigging, lighting, sound production; and set-up/tear-down of video wall.
The Lead Theater Technical Assistant will be using advanced skills in lighting/sound design/production; demonstrating well-rounded, technical experience supporting large-scale rental events, lectures, ceremonies, expos, public forums, and conferences. Other duties include providing direction to crew/overhires; training of technical staff; maintenance of scene shops, supplies, and maintenance of equipment inventories; instruction and technical assistance for various student productions
Duties include hands-on set design and construction and stage assembly and breakdown; hanging, focusing, programming and running lights; setting up and running audio; working with fly house system items; rigging with motors; truss system assembly; equipment inspection to identify damage, excessive wear, and the need for replacement; maintaining and ensuring operational and safety procedures; load-in and load-out for events; communicating with vendors and clients; and performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.
Required Education
High school diploma or GED
Required Experience
A minimum of three years experience providing technical support for theater productions and arena events is required, with demonstrated expertise in power distribution, lighting and electrics, audio systems, arena and theater rigging, truss, and staging.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Applicants must have the ability to serve as a lead and oversee the work of crew members
  • Ability to receive, communicate, and coordinate complex information
  • Ability to dependably work a flexible schedule.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to lift 50 lbs without assistance.

Work schedule is an average of 20 hours per week; specific work schedule will fluctuate based on the event and show needs of the department and will frequently include evening and weekend hours.
