The Regional Import and Customs Brokerage, NorthAm will provide leadership, oversight, support and strategic direction to Import and customs brokerage teams across NorthAm including Brokerage services contracted to external third parties.
With responsibility for local Regulatory compliance across all countries, the position will work with local teams to streamline operations and create efficiencies to ensure current business needs are met while preparing said operational teams for future growth. This role will be onsite in one of the listed locations
- Identify, developing and optimize all culture, process and performance improvements and efficiencies for the Import/Brokerage teams along with their interaction with local Dispatch teams and for leading/developing teams, who typically deliver customer interactions across multiple channels
- Define, negotiate and agree the effective utilization of resource in line with service specifications, working with, or being responsible for resource planning to the required resource in conjunction with business objectives and service level agreements.
- Strategically lead and develop a team to enhance performance by setting clear accountable performance measures
- Create a culture and processes which achieve the business goals and objectives with regards to Import and brokerage services provided to both local IOR and the global network
- Develop Regional/Local WI related to customs Import/Brokerage activities
- Drive Continuous Improvement in import/export and customs processes including developing a paperless work environment when possible
- Support stations and Customer Service teams with support needed to approve imports, assist in external audits relevant to Customs Certification and Licenses (develop action plan in case of audit findings)
- Perform customs procedure assessments to support customs process improvement, find potential for customs related savings, optimization opportunities (implementation of new customs software, work with the global team in the eCustoms project, system integration)
- Ensure Regulatory Compliance to Customs rules and Regulation across the Region
- Develop self-inspection questionnaire related to customs procedures and compliance (post-entry control etc., staff training records, update of local procedures in case of regulatory changes etc)
- Identify customs compliance risks, lead and define action plan to address identified compliance gaps
- Build customs expert teams across the Region and the network and collaborate internally and externally to acquire and share knowledge on customs compliance and processes
- Work with Training team to set up Customs Compliance awareness training for non-customs experts
- Work with sales and offices to evaluate needs to extend our customs brokerage service offering, seeking opportunities to expand our customer base
- Provide support on customer specific project involving complex customs procedures (Inward Processing Relief, EoR-IoR agreements...)
- Work with BI team to develop metrics and KPI specific to customs import/export related activities, drive high performance mindset across the customs brokerage team
- Use Customer/Network insight and Root Cause Analytics to identify companywide improvements
- Work with local Management to ensure the Import and Brokerage teams are comprised of qualified and motivated associates and encourage both personal initiative and collaboration within the departments
EXPERIENCE:
- 7 years in an Import Brokerage leadership role
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Extensive experiencing of managing Import/Brokerage teams
- Strong strategic and customer focus with a clear understanding of the wider issues impacting the relevant markets.
- Proven Management and/or relationship management experience at a senior, strategic level role.
- Established track record of exceeding targets, KPI's SLA's, in a quality led, regulatory compliant environment
- Able to interpret MI/BI and develop strategy and make recommendations.
- Demonstrate ability to motivate and communicate with others at all levels
- Influential relationships skills at all levels. Able to use these relationships to deliver service improvements
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Able to adapt and succeed in a changing environment
- Evidence of well-developed leadership skills.
- Must be fully capable of discharging all aspects of the Import/Brokerage role consistently and to a high standard.
- Must have strong World Courier and Industry experience & knowledge
- Must be able to take on projects required by management
- Able to delegate and give instructions as appropriate.
- Able to share knowledge and experience to improve the abilities/experience of all associates within the department
