Job Description
General Purpose of Job:
The RN provides professional nursing services guided by the Transformational Model for the Professional Practice of Nursing. Accepts responsibility for the direction of co-workers in the implementation of the nursing care plan to maximize patient outcomes.
Essential Duties:
This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
- Specialty catheter insertion (PICC/MIDLINE)
- IV therapy for pediatric to geriatric patients
- Specialty catheter teaching for patient transitioning out of hospital
- Extensive Vascular Access problem solving
- Care of epidural catheters
- Repair of CVAD andepidural lines
- TeachingIV therapy skills to nurses in various departments as a consultant
- Committee participation and support of PICC Team strategic plan including evaluation of quality improvement activities within the department, hospital and/or community
- Performs nursing activities in accordance with Hospital policies and procedures, the guidelines of accrediting bodies (The Joint Commission, Infusion Nurses Society, Association for Vascular Access), the Michigan Public Health Code and the ANA Scope & Standards of Practice
- Assess patient condition and initiates appropriate nursing and/or medical care in accordance with established guidelines and evidence-based practice
- Assists physicians in the development of an individualized plan of care based upon the assessment of the patient and treatment plan
- Evaluates patient outcomes and response to care, revising plan as needed. Documents assessment, plan, all care given and patient's response in the medical record
- Supports the development of self, other caregivers and students through mentoring, preceptorship and peer review
- Provides a safe environment for patient, family, and all other caregivers
- Performs additional duties as assigned
Job Requirements
General Requirements |
* RN - MI license. * BCLS within 60 days of hire. |
Work Experience |
* Clinical knowledge and critical thinking skills specific to vascular access which are necessary to deliver quality patient care * BSN (Preferred) * INS or AVA certification (Preferred) |
Education |
* Graduate of an accredited nursing program |
Specialized Knowledge and Skills |
* Must be flexible and have excellent interpersonal communication skills * Advanced knowledge and expertise of Vascular Access and Therapy * Advanced infusion therapy problem solving experience * Experience working with specialty vascular access lines including insertion/care/maintenance and problem solving * Vascular Access teaching experience and excellent vascular assessment skills * Experience with pediatric venipuncture |
1 year of RN experience required.
Department Description:Specialty catheter insertions (PICC/MIDLINE), IV therapy for pediatric to geriatric patients, IV home care teaching, extensive IV problem solving, care of epidural catheters, repair of CVAD andepidural lines, pain management, all aspects of oncology-chemotherapyadministration and teaching of cancerpatients. TeachingIV therapy skills to nurses in various departments as a consultant. Administration of blood and blood components. Committee participation and support of IVSD strategic plan.
