DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Our Keystone Summer Internship Program is designed to provide preprofessional training to students interested in pursuing a career in history, historic preservation, or museums. We created this program to be an integral part of our interns' academic training, and students are encouraged to seek credit. Each Keystone Summer Intern will work directly with a Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission (PHMC) staff mentor on a specific project or projects and will also learn about PHMC's multiple functions though educational and networking opportunities. Interns will also have regular opportunities to reflect on their own experiences within the broader context of the challenges and possibilities of public history. Keystone interns will receive a formal evaluation at the conclusion of the internship and will be asked to provide feedback to PHMC on their experience. As a Keystone Intern at Pennsbury Manor, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Work on visitor service experiences
  • Guide tours for schools and individuals
  • Help develop and deliver summer camps programming
  • Attend a US Citizenship ceremony at the manor
  • Research and write blog posts

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • 10-week internship, May 2025 through August 2025, approximately 225 to 300 hours
  • Work hours are flexible and will be finalized between the selected intern and their supervisor
  • Salary: $17.00 per hour

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Internship Requirements:

  • All applicants must be enrolled at a college or university in an undergraduate or graduate program at the time of their internship.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able and willing to report to Morrisville, PA during the Summer Keystone Internship dates, which will be a 10-week period between of May 12 and August 22, 2025.
  • You must be majoring, minoring, or have a concentration in History, Public History, Museum Studies, or Library and Information Sciences.
  • You must have a GPA of 2.5 or above.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • More than one year of university studies completed
  • The desire to enter the museum field upon graduation
  • Work, academic, or volunteer experience that has prepared you for this internship
  • An understanding of how this internship will help you meet your academic and/or career goals

Legal Requirements:

  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
