The University of Pittsburgh Department of Surgery is inviting applications for a faculty position in the General/Trauma Surgery Division at the rank of Professor, appointment stream. The ideal candidate will also have experience working within a medical and or engineering school at a nationally ranked university and possess a PhD and/or MD in medicine or chemical/bioengineering. The assigned faculty will play an integral role in the clinical care of surgery patients and basic science research, as well as have a strong involvement with medical students, residents, and fellow teachers and will be academically active in the study of general surgery and trauma surgery. The incumbent will also serve in an administrative role as the Deputy Director for the Center for Military Medicine Research. The incumbent must demonstrate a clear understanding of the Department of Defense and its research enterprise, including experiences in program development, acquisition, and management from basic research through clinical trials, experiences in advanced development and deployment of technologies is a plus. The ideal candidate will have experience in strategic planning, technology transfer, and award management (including contract grants, cooperative agreements, and other transaction agreements). The incumbent needs to be self-motivated, work independently, and have strong organizational skills and high emotional intelligence to work in complex, multidisciplinary teams with leaders in their scientific, engineering, and medical fields. Hence, this position also requires an incumbent with demonstrated experiences in developing and managing a wide variety of scientific disciplines to include military medicine, engineering, and technological innovations impacting health and human performance. Time allocation will be 40% Clinical, 10% Research, 5% Teaching, 5% Service, and 40% Administrative.
