The Position

Install, turn-up, test and troubleshoot Lumos Residential and Business Services. Perform advanced OTDR traces and fiber characterization. Performs Preventive Maintenance on RSB equipment located at Host, Remote, COLO, POP and DLC locations. The Service Operations Specialist is a Subject Matter Expert on operating, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing Lumos Networks RSB CO, Remote, DLC and COLO equipment.




  • Virtual Position: This position is remote within the State of South Carolina and must reside within 30 minutes of Columbia, SC or Lexington, SC.



Duties & Responsibilities:




  • Performs Preventive Maintenance on equipment located at RSB CO, Remote, DLC and COLO Sites.
  • Perform advanced OTDR traces and fiber characterization
  • Installations / Troubleshooting basic Voice, Data, Video services & CPE (Residential Gateways, Routers, etc.)
  • Working on computer for Data entry (Updating Trouble Tickets, Orders Timesheet's etc.)
  • Serves as Subject Matter Expert to operate, maintain, troubleshoot and repair RSB CO, Remote, DLC and COLO equipment.
  • Supports RSB Engineering Projects to include adding GPON cards, turning up new Access Gear, turning up new Splitters, upgrading ONTs and working on equipment upgrades.
  • Assisting Net Ops to troubleshoot, isolate and resolve operational and hardware issues in RSB CO, Remote, DLC and COLO equipment


Qualifications




  • Education: High school education or equivalent & relevant electronics background. Associates degree in electronics and/or networking preferred.


  • Experience. Skills, and proficiencies:

    • 5-7 years of telecommunications industry experience
    • Network Cabling, Basic Electrical, Basic Telephony, Grounding/ Bonding ANSI/EIA/TIA-607
    • Maintain Power equipment such as rectifiers, batteries and generators
    • Ability to read and understand cross connects for Fiber LCC cabinets and splitters
    • Experience with advanced GPON and Fiber based services and equipment
    • Experience of voice services (SIP) and associated hardware
    • Working Knowledge with Video services and associated hardware
    • Working knowledge of LAN/WAN services and associated hardware
    • Working knowledge of IP sub netting
    • Ability to make sound business decisions that support customer expectations, Technician I and II positions, as well as provide positive benefit for the organization
    • Willingness to attend various schools, training classes, and seminars as deemed necessary to support the position Senior Technician Position




  • Key Competencies:


    • Reside within 30 minutes of normal reporting location including home-based.
    • Quality - Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; Looks for ways to improve and promote quality; Applies feedback to improve performance; Monitors own work to ensure quality.
    • Ability to climb a utility pole and work aloft, carry and handle extension ladders, step ladder as applicable to Job responsibilities.
    • Capable of lifting 50 lbs. and transport 50 feet.
    • Availability to work various hours, schedules, weather conditions, including weekends, holidays, overtime, and callouts as required.
    • Ability to work in attics, crawl spaces and confined areas.
